I used to believe that when I was riding in a car, the wind was just blowing REALLY hard. It had nothing to do with the car pushing air.. It was JUST the air.

When I was little (was about 4), I used to think the moon was following me.. While riding in the backseat of the car I said "My moon is following us, hurry up!" and my dad jokingly said "It's lonely." It scared me.

Brown or otherwise non-white snow was snowman poop. My kids believe it too!

I live close to Kodak and when I was little I used to believe that the smoke stacks made the clouds in the sky. I always got a huge kick of driving by the factory and seeing clouds being made.

My Dad used to take me to the beach as a toddler.
We would stand on the edge of the rocks and wait for the waves to come and splash on our feet.
Dad informed me that it was the sea kissing our toes.
I took it literally and though that the sea was a huge living creature.
I was utterly afraid of it, and I still can't swim.

I used to think that the moving lights in the night sky were the stars being moved around to keep the sky more interesting.

I didn't know they were airplanes.

I used to think those giant wind turbines were really just big fans because it was so hot where they were, and it needed some cooling.

When I was little, I used to believe that instead of people moving when they walked, the earth moved in the direction they wanted to go, and the people were stationary. I never did figure out how so many people could walk in separate directions if the earth was moving. I never really though of it - I just knew that when I walked, the earth moved, and when I stopped, it stopped, and it must be the same for everybody else!

My mom said to my aunt " that Kudzu is taking over, nothing can kill it". So in my mind she said kudzu was going to take over the earth and we would be smothered by it, and that is what I belived.

When I was four I was into doing "rain dances" which were just a lot of jumping around and yelling. One day I put my turkey feather Indian headdress on and ran through the house whooping and shouting until I got really tired. The next day we had a massive rainstorm that caused flooding in a lot of low-lying areas around town. For the next six months I hid every time I saw a police officer because I was positive they knew I caused that flood and they were coming to get me!

I used to believe that the sun and moon were married. I used to call them Mr. Sun and Mrs. Moon. I thought that whenever Mr. Sun was out, then Mrs. Moon had gone shopping, and if Mrs. Moon was out, then Mr. Sun had gone fishing... I couldn't quite figure out why they never stayed in the sky at the same time.

This is not my belief but one that a young girl in my colege astonomy class held. Despite a lot of ribbing and scientific evidence to the contrary, this poor girl still believes what her Mother told her when she was a child.

Her belief was that the sun and the moon are the same. In other words, the sun turns into the moon when night falls.

I used to believe…

living in central Connecticut, frequent trips to the beach (30 miles away) were easy and fun...
I used to believe that HIGH TIDE was big waves and LOW TIDE got us small waves

I used to believe fog was caused by cows smoking cigars. How could mom be lying?!

When I was three or four, I remember believing that people lived on the moon. Not just some people, but all people. Including myself and my family...everyone.

I would gaze up at the moon in the night sky often, and wonder how such a clear reflection could show up there. It wasn't until I finally asked my parents that I learned we lived on planet earth.

I have no clue why I thought that we lived on the moon...

Growing up, our neighbor had two small, white stone statutes in her yard, a squirrel and a dog.

One day I was playing the role of Smarter Older Sister and telling my 9-year-old brother about acid rain. "Know those animals in Mrs. Daniels's yard?" I said. "They would still be alive today if they had had the sense to come in out of the acid rain."

He was 11 before he realized how full of shit I was.

I used to believe trees made wind. I'd see them blowing around and think they were doing it by themselves to cool down the world.

(Stepdaughter, at age 7, when she came to live with us)

"Did you know that if you throw a pebble in a volcano it will explode?"

Took a lot of convincing that her 9 yr old pal wasn't the smartest in the world.

I used to believe that on certain TV shows and movies, that when they said "Houston we have a problem" they were talking to this guy named houston, not talking to NASA in Houston, Texas. I was like "Why do they keep talking to this guy named houston?" Of couse my family tryed not to laugh at me but they couldn't help it.
