When I was a small child, I believed that if I stepped into a water puddle, i would fall into space. The puddle reflected the sky, which made it look to me like a neverending hole.

When my three children were small, I told them that the cooling tower at the power plant was a cloud maker when they asked what it was by Lake Michigan that was spewing the large fluffy white condensation.

It warmed my heart to hear my daughter give the same explanation to my grandson and then several years later, him telling his much younger sister the same.

My father had an invisible jelly-bean tree in our backyard. Only he could find it, at night, and pick the beans.

My brother and I were so upset when we found the bag of jelly beans one year when we were looking for Christmas presents.

I have no idea why, but I thought that the constellation Orion would shoot us with arrows when he was in the sky. We were safe as long as we were in a building or vehicle; but when we got out of the car to go into our house, it was risky. I used to anxiously watch the stars whilst my dad unlocked the door, hoping we'd get inside in time.

When I was a kid and we had a warning on TV about an "isolated" tornado, I thought it was a tornado made out of ice so I'd go to bed with my gloves and coat on in case the "ice-olated" tornado hit.

I was born in 1967 and my Dad worked on the Saturn V so I remember hearing all about how man landed on the moon. For many years, when people would talk about seeing the "man in the moon" I would look really hard to see his silouette sticking off the side!

Ever seen a bright light through a piece of fabric? The holes let the light in. I used to believe that if the dark sky was the fabric of the night that the stars were the holes in the fabric, letting heaven shine through.

When the TV weatherman would list the current temperature and the windchill factor, I thought he said "windshield factory". I could never figure out why the weather would be different there and why anyone would care about it.

When I was a little boy, probably around the age of 5-6 years, I used to believe that the northern light would come and eat me if I went out when it was visible.

I was always told not to stand by a tree in a thunder storm. When there was a thunder stom I'd hide under the bed instead until my older sister told me that beds were made of wood. I spent the whole time running all over the house terrified trying to get away from anything made of wood.
