When I was three or four, I remember believing that people lived on the moon. Not just some people, but all people. Including myself and my family...everyone.

I would gaze up at the moon in the night sky often, and wonder how such a clear reflection could show up there. It wasn't until I finally asked my parents that I learned we lived on planet earth.

I have no clue why I thought that we lived on the moon...

I used to believe that on certain TV shows and movies, that when they said "Houston we have a problem" they were talking to this guy named houston, not talking to NASA in Houston, Texas. I was like "Why do they keep talking to this guy named houston?" Of couse my family tryed not to laugh at me but they couldn't help it.

I used to believe that Moon is the kid of Sun, because it has less light and Moon smiles with kids.

i used to think that because people would say that they lived "in" a certain city, or country, like, "I live IN chicago" or "i live IN the u.s.a." that the same thing applied to which planet you lived on. so i figured that earth was almost like an inflatable beach ball, and we lived inside if it. thats how i explained why there was a blue sky and that you would eventually be able to touch it if you got up high enough. i also figured that the astronauts would have to blast a hole in the sky in order to get out. i figured the stars were all the holes the astronauts had blasted.

when i was like 9 or 10
my brother thought me some basic stuff about atoms and stuff like that.
so i found it very interesting that the way the electrons float around the proton-neutron core was the same way that the planets go around the sun, then i thought "hey, maybe the solar system is one big atom"

and i'm not kidding
gosh, i was so much smarter 8(

My grandfather once explained to me that the sun is a giant ball of fire hanging in space. Well, I could picture that easily enough, but I had to wonder what the other end of the sun's string was tied to...

I believed for a very long time that the Moon was the back of the sun. My big brother told me that and it would make sense: Everyday the sun shines because it faces us and at night it faces other people and we're actually looking at it's butt! I feel so silly sharing this!

I used to think that we lived in the center of the earth, and the blue sky was actually a protective covering with a light outside it so we could all see. Don't ask.

I thought the moon was evil and it's rays would try to kill me every night. So of course I outsmarted it by blocking the moonlight every day with my curtains. But the moon would begin to eat away at the curtains and reach me so I made sure I was properly covered. By the time the moonlight reached me, it would be morning and the sun would save me.

When i was little I truly believed that all things were alive.. the sun would go to bed in the evening and be tucked in by a big warm Sun mother. I then imagined the moon waking up, brushing its teeth and having breakfast before beginning the night. I was sure the moon was a nocturnal creature and was shocked when I first saw it in the daylight. From time to time I still look up and laugh out loud to myself.

About the time I was in pre-school, the family was riding in the car as we were moving cross country from the east coast to the west coast. On one of those days, as it passed into the night, I asked my mom what happens to the Sun after it goes down for the night. She asked me what I thought happened and I told her that after the Sun goes down it seperates into a bunch of tiny specks and becomes the stars and that by morning they gather back together into the Sun.

She responded, "That's exactly what happens."

I believed it for the next several years.
