I used to think the sun and the moon were the same thing. When it changed back and forth, that was what caused daytime and nighttime.
I used to think that when I went outside at night with a flashlight and pointed it at the sky, that I was "making" a new star. And that for every time I turned the flashlight off and on while pointing at the sky I was making more and more stars.
When I was about 4 years old, I believed that I had never actually seen a real star and I thought the sky were just "dots"
I used to believe that the sky was another dimension and if you jumped high enough you would fall up forever. I also that since the moon was in the day as well it would have life and at night everything died.
I had a huge discussion in 2nd grade standing at the globe. The other person said we live on the outside of the globe. Duh- we live on the inside! Besides if we lived on the outside how would we not just fall off into space?!!
My mind was blown when I found out that we live on a giant ROUND planet. Like many people, I used to think the world was flat, because that is how it looks. (It's obviously an illusion caused by how small we are, compared to the planet.)
When I was about 5, my brother told me that clouds didn't move. They just looked like they were moving because the Earth was rotating.
I used to think that those jets that leave lines in the sky were actually rockets going to space. when they were flying "down", I assumed they were crashing. I was always worried that one was going to crash into our house.
I used to believe that the dark spots on the moon were astronauts walking around. I would sit on my front porch every night and talk to them, and I would wave and say hello :)
When I was 5 I thought that the hole planet was a gigantic kinder surprise and that one day someone would open it and find us!
I used to believe that we lived on a planet called 'The World', so I told my mom when I grew up I wanted to visit Earth.
I used to believe that the earth was like a board game for giants and that every action was controlled by them from a raindrop to an earthquake..
I thought the spectral class of stars (OBAFGKM) stood for: O- Awesome (I couldn't spell very well) B- Beautiful, A- Amazing, F- Fantastic, G- Good, K- Kool, and M- Mediocre
When I was a kid, I thought NASA had landed on every planet, not just the moon.. and I thought they went to their all the time. I believed this on up to my late teen years.
When I was little my older sister said that the Earth is a huge ball. After that I began to belive that we live inside of the ball and there are gigants who played with that ball and when they do earthquakes happen. I also belived that inside my ball there are tiny people, who have tiny balls and inside their balls there are tinier people......
At dusk, when the sky would turn pretty swirling colors my mom would tell me, "Santa's making candy!" To this day whenever I see a pretty sky at night, I get nostalgic and think about all the ways I'm going to lie to my kids when they're old enough to understand, but young enough not to know better.
I used to believe black holes moved quickly through outer space, and if they got too close to Earth, they would wander around on the surface sucking people up.
As a kid we used to go on drives in the country. I noticed all these large things covered by tapolen mats. I asked what was under them. By brother told me they were u.f.o's under there. there was so many of them. Needless to say i was terrified of going in the country where all the aliens were ! (Later i found out it was haybales.)
I used to believe, when I was like five, that space had a bottom. I thought that the north pole was the only safe place to live, because it was facing up. I had no idea of gravity.
I used to think that the sun moon and stars were in the sky. the sun was like a light and would go out at night. the moon and stars were like night lights that glow in the dark!
