When I was riding in the car a rainbow appeared in the sky out the front windshield. I wanted my father to drive faster so we could go under it before it disappeared. I discovered that rainbows were optical phenomena and not physical objects when playing with the garden hose. The rainbow produced by the spray would always be the same size and if I tried to get closer or change my viewpoint it would vanish.

My cousin moved from Texas to Illinois when she was about 4. At the time is was winter and she had never seen snow. When her mother told her that she was finally going to see snow she started crying. As it turned out she thought that snow came out of the sky in the form of snowballs and they would hit you in the head if you went outside.

I thought Weathermen said "Windshield temperature" not "Wind-chill temperature" on those cold bitter days, and was convinced this was the temperature of the air when traveling down the road.

My next door neighbor told me that if the wind blew, trees would fall down. Low and behold it began to get windy, and we freaked out and ran inside.

When I was in second grade my best friend Allison went out of town for 2 weeks. because i was so little, this seemed like forever, and i really began to miss her. i was watching tv with my parents one night and they were talking about "hurricane allison". i got really worried about my friend allison because i thought she was in some kind of danger. i was crying hysterically and nothing would make me feel better.

I don't know exactly how i got it into my head, but when i was little I thought that rain was caused by airplanes. Well, actually, people in airplanes, throwing buckets of water down. It was rare that an airplane would fly over my neighborhood when I was outside playing, but when one did I jolted inside and watched T.V, in fear that it was going to be pouring buckets soon. Thinking back, I watched alot of T.V.

When I was about 6 years old, I thought that the clouds were formed from the tops of smoke stacks. I wondered how they then got so white and I was told by a friend that God bleached them once they came out.

As a child I believed that the dark-colored "night clouds" that are visible after sunset are made of special dark-blue water vapor. At some point in my adult life I realized that this belief had persisted in my mind uncorrected!
