I used to believe the abbreviation lb. stood for a unit of measurement called an "ilible". So, I'd be at the grocery store with my mom thinking we were getting 2 "ilibles" of something.

I used to believe that when you went into an elevator in a department store, that hundreds of short men (oompa-loompa-like) would rush out and change everything around in the brief few seconds before the elevator doors would open again. I thought the people browsing on the floor were plants -- actors that were there to make you feel like the whole scene was real.

Once I went to to the circus to see a gigantic (about 4 metres) mechanical King Kong it really scared me, (as I have watched the movie before) so up until I was 7, I used to believe that the exhibition antiaerial guns outside the ministry of defense were to shot down King Kong, in case he ever cut loose from the circus.

When I was a kid, I was afraid of escalators in department stores. I thought that once I reached the top or bottom I would get sucked in.

Whne I was young, my father used to carpool to work. One day he came home and said person x was retiring and that he would need to join a new carpool. Thinking this was a car with a large swimming pool in the back; I asked him if he would have to buy a new swim-suit.

my mom used to tell me the ice cream truck was just a truck that drove
around and played music for all of the little boys and girls in the neighborhood.
i did not know there was ice cream on the truck.

My mum told me that the programmes being shown on the tellies in Rumbelows window were always on earlier than the ones at home as I was upset at missing playschool. I fell for it.

I was on a tour of the caverns and was told that if I touched anything the entire place would collapse. I admired the self-control of all the tour guides. Later, I think I touched a wall when no one was looking.

I used to believe I made street lights blink out when I went by them because it happened so frequently. It came up in a car-ride one time with my Dad as we drove by one that went out, he looked at me and said "I did that." I couldn't believe it, I had inherited the supernatural vibes from my Dad! It still happens to us this day. <insert soundtrack from Encounters of the Third Kind here>

When I was about 4, a woman used to ride past our window on a moped on her way to work every morning in an anorak and crash helmet. For some unexplicable reason, I thought she was Princess Anne riding her horse. Wierder still, I thought she was called "Princess Hand".
True story.

My mum used to tell me that when the Ice Cream van came round, it was for "children whos mummys couldn't afford a freezer", so that I didn't get her to buy me anything.

When I was wee, I misheard my mother when she ordered me an ice-cream.

For years, I was to be found asking for 'a nice cream'.

I still catch myself doing it to this day! And I'm 26 now...

I believed that you could get sucked into the gap at the end of the escalator, the moving stairs disappear into the floor. I was terrified of going on the escalator and would walk backwards on it until I worked up the guts to take a running jump over it. These days I sometimes let my feet slide off the escalator onto the ground just to prove to myself that I can't fit through the gap even if I try.

I used to believe…

That waterslides were filled to the top with water, so that if you got stuck or didn't go down fast enough, you'd drown. (And I still have those damn "stuck in a waterslide" nightmares)

I used to think that ambulances constantly cruised around neighborhoods and when you needed one, you just ran outside and flagged one down.

When I was little I used to see *angels in the sky* going about their business or just acting out plays. As it turned it, they were just the screens of drive-in movie theatres which were so pronounced against the evening sky. How comforting it was to see my *angels out.*

there is a venue near my parents' home called "private dancer/adult bookstore." i always wanted to go there when i was little because it combined the two things i loved so much: dancing and books. i was taking tap lessons at the time, and thought one day i'd be able to perform there, my first step on my way to broadway. also, i was jealous of the adults who went to the "adult bookstore." i thought that meant they were books for people who were advanced readers. i couldn't wait until i was well read enough to go there. little did i know they were all picture books.
