When I was little I loved playing in the park near my house, but when it was time to go home I never wanted to leave, so my mother told me that the park was going to close. When I heard that I pictured a giant glass dome falling from the sky trapping kids who stayed in the park for too long for eternity. I would run for my life when she told me the park was closing!

I used to believe…

have you ever seen the signs about neighbourhood watch with a guy on it in a trenchcoat with a hat on that was completely black(not African American black) and you could only see his eyes?I used to think there was a guy like that in our neighbourhood.

When I was a kid I thought that the neighborhood watch sign (of the black figure with a trench coat and hat, saying keep out) was actually a picture of a cat. I thought it was saying that the neighbors should not have any cats because there were too many dogs in the neighborhood.

When I was little I asked my mom how the lights changed at a stop light. For some reason, she told me that there were "little green men" in the boxes on the pole that worked there. I told her this recently and she said she doesn't remember when or why she would ever tell me this...we laugh about it all the time now!

When I was little while visiting my aunt we used to have to drive past the water tower in the town of Avon. I thought that the water tower was full of Avon perfume and that that was where they filled the bottles of perfume from.

When I was a kid I used to think that the electrical switching station/power plant near our house was a big playground. I really wanted to swing around on all the cables. I didn't understand why we couldn't go through the gates and play in there.

i have an inground pool. i used to believe that little people swan around on the bottom just waiting for me to jump in & pull me down to the bottom & drown me!!! i still have to double check the bottom b4 jumping in(:

For whatever reason, I don't know why, when I was a little girl, maybe four or five, I thought all the handicapped marked parking spaces at the stores were for drunk people. Imagine the look on my parents faces when I announced this in front of some of their friends!! I'm sure they all wondered what my parents did on the weekends!!!

When I was about 7 or 8 I thought that when my parents told me not to get near our pool cover was not because I would drown with it pulling me down but rather there were sharks under there. So when it was back half way I would literally take goggles and try to see them on the other side of the pool but stay really close to the shallow end wall.

me and my friends used to believe that my neighborhood had a bad guy lurking about and that he was going to steal me and my friends' bikes and toys that we left outside at night, so we created a secret agent group where we would run through parks and back yards looking for mischevous characters. i'm sure we were the only mischevous looking things around.

When we would go shopping my mom would tell me that, no we could not buy the candy because it was not "on sale" and I used to get so upset and confused because why would they put the candy or snacks on the shelf if they were not going to sell it to you?!

In our neighborhood supermarket, the register had a computer woman's voice that said the price of the food as it scanned. I believed that there were little women working in the basement of the supermarket speaking into a microphone.

When I rode my bicycle my mother always told me to eb careful of strangers. I didn't know what the word "stranger" meant, and I thought that strangers were the maintenance men who worked in my apartment development. Anytime I'd ride past the boiler room doors past a building (where the maintenance men kept their supplies), I'd go really fast in case one of them was there and tried to catch me.

There is a huge factory (which I now know is owned by Sunoco) next to the highway. Whenever we would drive by my mom would tell us that's where Batman lived. For years I thought Batman really lived there. Weird thing is, in all the movies he lives in a HUGE house, yet I still believed he lived in a huge pipe filled factory that shot out fire.

We didn't go too many places that had elevators when I was a child, but one place that did was the local swimming pool (it was an olympic-size pool and there was a spectator area where people could sit to watch the competitions...you could use the elevator to get up there or you could climb up stairs from either the lobby or the pool deck area). I used to believe that the "do not use in case of fire" signs I saw near elevators meant people shouldn't ever use the elevators, "just in case" there was a fire in the building. Oddly enough, I never questioned why they put elevators in the building at all if they were that dangerous. I'd stand around and see other people using the elevator and feel self-righteous because I was "obeying the rules" and using the stairs.

When I was little, I couldn't see into the window for the ice cream truck. So I never knew he PUT the soft-serve ice cream in the cone or dish. I thought it was ready-made in the freezer, like popsicles. I was always amazed that our ice cream wasn't squished up.
