when i was around 4, i remember sitting in the car watching the powerlines along the road - and the steel structures holding them up would look like ladies stretching their arms up to hold the wires up.
I was sort of a weird kid anyway, but when I was very young, I used to think that the little circular plastic bits they put on hangers-- you know, they're little colored discs and they have a S, M, or L, or XL on them-- were called "chemicals." Every time my mother or aunt took me shopping, I would crawl around on the floor underneath the racks collecting them. After a few trips my collection at home was getting a bit large, so my mother insisted that I leave them at the store. And so at the conclusion of every trip, I would take my handful of plastic bits to the register and hand them to the cashier, saying "Here, I cleaned up all your chemicals."
when i was little, coupons really confused me. they always told me how much i was going to save, but my question was: how did they know how much money i even had in the first place?
Every time I entered a building that was built in/on a hill or slanted ground, I could not figure out how i could walk in the front door on the bottom floor, go up the escalator, walk out a door on the second floor and still be on the ground. it boggled my mind for years

I used to believe…
that DOT was a particularly popular brand of motor cycle helmet.
My mom used to tell me when the ice cream truck came it was the one with chile ( that is really spicy in spansh and i didnt like spicy food ) so i would say " really? ohhhhh yuck " and then i would go back in side. its was a long time before i found it not true. thx mom
I played Mario Bros with my brother a lot when I was younger.I believed that you could turn video games into real life if you tried hard enough. I would always stand on manholes and concentrate my hardest to get beamed down so I could get extra coins or find the hidden passageway. I even convinced my best friend it was true.
when i was litttle, i was in a after school program at the YMCA, and we went swimming everyday for about 30 minutes. They told us that if we peed in the pool, a red colour, like blood would surround us. And they would have to evacuate the pool.
When I was about 8 or 9, I used to believe that there were giant people under the streets that would hold up the speed bumps with their arms and heads. One time, I tried acting it out and my parents asked me if I was praying.
When I was little my younger sister convinced me that there where sharks in the deep end of the swimming pool. Now I hate swimming in water over my head!
"Step on a crack, you'll break your mothers back". I was always looking down at the sidewalks to be sure I didn't step on a crack. Must have gotten one, because my mom did break her back(cracked disk) when I was 10. I was devastated, but she then told me it wasn't my fault and that was just a fable.
When I was about 9 years old I was all into watching shark movies such as jaws and so on. At this time I lived in a mobile home park where my mom would take my brother and I down to the pool to go swimming. Now though I loved learning about sharks and watching them...I was terrified of them! So when we would go swimming I believed that somehow where ever there was water...there could be a shark. (Except of course the bath tub at my house because nothing scary or bad could be somewhere that my parents lived.) so to say the least every time we would go swimming I had this thing that if I went into the deep end I had to be the first one to pass the blue line separating the deep end from the shallow and the first one crossing it to come back or the bottom of the pool would open up and a shark would come out and eat me. ! honestly did this and had it in my head until I was like 12 haha
When I was little, my mom would always scold bad manners by saying things like "What would the Queen of England think if she saw you doing that?" or "The Queen of England would never invite you to tea if you keep your elbows on the table like that."
I always wondered how my mom knew the Queen of England, and when she was going to visit so I could show her all the good manners I'd apparently been practicing for her.
i used to think that in restaurants 'giving a tip' to the waiter meant suggesting how the could cook their food better....like 'here's a tip - add more salt to the sauce next time'.

I used to think that K Mart was so named because somewhere there must be other stores with all the names from "A Mart" through "J Mart".

I used to believe…
That nothing existed underneath roads - only 'outer-space'
I used to go to the Thrift store every week with my Mom when I was about 5. There was a Soda Machine in the store. I always thought that people would donate their half empty sodas to the thrift store and those sodas were put into the machine. I never wanted a soda from their.
As a child, I was really confused about restaurants that advertised "All you can eat". It is, after all, an ambiguous phrase. It made me think that there must be SOME restaurants where a group of people might go, only to be told for some mysterious reason "Only some of you can eat here.", or "Not all of you can eat here." But those that advertised "All you can eat" must be telling you that they weren't that kind of restaurant, saying that "All you can eat here (not just some of you)".
My mum used to tell me the music on the ice cream van was actually the bin man, I heard her telling my 2 year old son this last week and he believed her, I might tell him the truth one day(!)
