When I was little, I was at the pool and my sister told me not to blow water out the end of those hollow floating things or i would get meningococcal.
I had never heard of it before and i thought she said i would get a ninja cockeral.
I didn't ever do it again.

My Mother told me that if I didn't finish my food, (in a restaurant) that the waiter would charge us to take the leaft overs away. I was a fussy eater but beleived her and always cleared my plate. I don't have that problem now though, I'm always on the prowl for more food:)
When I was a small child, I used to believe that little gnomes lived inside the lamposts seen in the street. These gnomes would sit at computer consoles inside the lamposts and, when it would get dark enough, simultaneously switch on the lights. They lived there all day, every day and I often wondered how they survived as well as admired them for their demanding occupation.

I used to believe that Old Navy would only allow elderly Navy veterans to shop there, and also I used to believe that Pep Boys Auto only sold to men! =)
For many years I believed that if the ice cream man was playing music it meant that there was nothing left! Thats what mum told us!!
Whenever I would travel with my parents I noticed the signs that had JCT on them. I thought that meant that Jets, Cars, and Trucks could use the road. I have no idea why. It was years later i realized it was abbreviation for junction. I still say to myself "Jet Car Truck" when I see the JCT sign.
I used to think if you stepped into a nasty puddle of water or car fluid in a parking lot, you would be mutated like TMNT or the Toxic Avenger!
When I was around 4 or 5, my dad always told me that the ice cream truck was the "music" truck. When he heard it, he would say "Oh, there goes the music truck," so that I woudn't be begging him for ice cream. When I became older, I realized what was really in the truck.

I used to believe the 'To Let' signs on buildings meant there was a tiolet there
I used to believe that pictures, especially huge portraits of people, would rest when no one was looking or when they thought no one was looking. So you can imagine how afraid I was when I visited an art museum and we took a tour of the place. I just knew I would happen to see one of the people change positions out of the corner of my eye when we walked past.
I used to think I was going to fall through the ice and drown when I was ice skating and heard the ice cracking. I found out 35 years later that the ice skating area was just about a 5" depression on a park lawn that was flooded for skating during the winter.
I used to think that there was a highly complex underground tube system that connected public mailboxes around the world - once you popped your letter into the mailbox, the underground system would figure out where it's going and pop it out on the other end.
I thought the mail man was only for private, home mails only...
When my neighborhood friend from New York moved to Florida, I expected my new neighbors moving into the house to be from Florida as I was sure they were exchanging houses. I had no concept about buying and selling and I assumed it was just a trade. When I found out the new neighbors were from across town, I was very concerned about what happened to the poor family from Florida.
When I was 2 or 3 I used to believe that, when you mailed a letter, it went down a chute under the mailbox and was somehow (pneumatically?) whisked into your mailbox at home. When walking along the street with my mother, I used to peer under mailboxes, looking for the chute.

I thought the painted white lines of a crosswalk were meant to lift you up a little higher so cars could see you.
when I was little, my mum had planned the family holiday and told me I would really like it becuase there were lots of cycle paths in the area, but I misheard her. She seemed concerned when I was not excited about the holiday and was always miserable when there, until, when planning the next years one, I told her that I didnt want to go anywhere that there are lots of pyschopaths again. I had spent the whole holiday keeping an eye on everyone around me in case they tried to kill us.
when i was young i used to believe that there was sharks in my swimming pool. and the worst thing about it was, my father would make me do about 60 laps a day! I hated him for that!!
i once went shopping with my mom. she told me that she was looking for a "teddy" meaning lingerie. i thought that she meant a teddy bear. I was confused to why when we were in the wrong section of the store....and then yelled, "mom this is not where you buy the teddy's!!" I embarrassed her!
I used to believe…
