in between certain grouping of houses
we had these greenbelt grassy spaces.
they had a bit of a dip in them - probly used to drain rain water

the 'dips' were excellent for tobagganing
but everyone was always scared to go on the 'steep' hill.
- having just recently visted the area my mind images that used to be were completely smashed as even the 'steep' hill id hardly recognize as a slant.
how we ever got speed off of those 'hills' was beyond me.

all the neighborhood kids and i would halfto pass through
the "big dip" enroute to our elementary school.
it was common knowledge to all of us kids
that these dips were leftover from medeval times
that castles used to be built up in the center of the 'dips'
and the remaining edges were the moat.

I used to believe…

the neighbourhood i lived in as a child
was pretty simplistic,
it was a square shape i guess;
a full block.
i lived on one of the inside corners
and all my friends lived within that area.
the concenting rule of the parents was,
you were only aloud to play
up and down the two streets
making an 'L' shape.
only if you had an adult with you
or it was the bike parade day could you
ever do the full 'loop' ( use the othe two streets that make the square block )

i always found it unfair that we only got
the 'L'
while the other half of the block got the 'oop'
it made 'loop' walks alot more exciting though.

my older brother convinced me when i was 2 that their was an algea monster that lived in our pool (the algea almost never went away for some reason) and that if i swam in the deep end the monster would come up from the muck and eat me. I didn't swim in the deep end till i was 7.

When I was small, I used to be dragged along with my parents to see and Orchestra play classical music. If you've ever seen a really "passionate" musician, you'll know that sometimes they'll make some strange faces while they play. I thought this meant that playing the violin or whatever hurt, and I wondered why no one went up to help hold up the violin because it was so heavy, and they had to hold it up for so long.

When I was little, I believed that when you were standing in a pool you were just floating there like a bubble, and you moved by magic, or the wind, etc

My dad used to tell me that if I didn't lift up my feet at the end of the escalator, I'd get sucked in, because I'd always be playing on the steps as we went up or down. I still have never stood still when I got to the end, I know I won't get sucked up but I don't wanna risk it.

I used to think that F.A.O. Schwarz toy store was a hands-on children's museum. My mom told me that so I wouldn't ask her if I could get a toy.

When I was little, there was a small store down the road of my grandparents house and the owner told me that the mutant ninja turtles lived in a manhole in the middle of the store.

i thought lease was some rich famous lady that everyone loved since i saw all these signs on buildings that said *for lease*
i thought she was taking over the world or something, buying all those stores and stuff

when i was little there was a little snack shop called grandma's watering hole. i had never heard of it before until one day after i came home from a friend's house my sister told me she went to "grandma's watering hole" ... i thought that my grandma had a watering hole in her back yard! i could imagine it~ i saw it as a really pretty fountain/ well thingy in the woods with deer and stuff drinking out of it ^o^

When I was much younger, we were driving in upstate New York and my father pointed out the window and told me he used to live over in that direction. I though he was pointing at the water tower, and since I didn't know what it was, I wondered what it must have been like to live in a house that was so high up. It had a balcony, though, so it must have been nice.
He corrected me, though.

When I was just about two or three years old, at restaurants I would always want to get down on the floor, but my parents told me that the floor was hot and I would burn my feet.

I used to believe that buying something "on the black market" meant you had to walk down a scary, dark, corridor, to find what you were looking for...in the dark. I pictured disfigured vendors, trying to sell you all manner of weird things that weren't available anywhere else.

i used to believe that if you fell through the space between steps, you'd fall to hell. i was morbidly afraid af steps with spaces between them.

When I was probably around 2 (unfortunately this is one of my first memories) I was in a video rental store and I strayed from my father and into the adult section. It was curtained off. I remember standing in there looking at all the jacket covers, and thinking to myself that behind every curtain there were pictures of naked people. Everywhere I went after that, I'd peel back curtains to check for the creepy naked people... dad told me you weren't supposed to be naked, so I wanted to tell on them!

I used to think that there were two worlds, and that both were exactly the same. The reason was because when we went shopping we would go to the shopping entre, enter through one door on the ground floor, then go out of another on the first floor. Wasnt until I was older I realised they were just built on hills.

One of my earliest shopping trips with my mother, I noticed that she had to pay more than she'd expected and needed to look into her handbag for change. When I asked why, she said she had to pay for the tax. So when we got home, I dumped out the bag looking for the "tacks." I told mom that we didn't get them!

i come from a small little town where we don't have supermarkets , just little vending stands so when i heard we were going to the super market for the first time i was shoked, i though a super market was for super heroes (i.e super man) so i though wow im finally going to meey a real hero!!!

you can imagine my disapiontment

my mum used to tell me when i was a lil boy that if the icecream van was playing music that it had run out of icecream and was only selling ciggerets, and i belived her
