when I was little, I used to think that water towers were full of water. I was always confused because they had doors on them sometimes. I thought that if someone opened the door on a water tower, that all the water would spill out

When I was in third grade I was going to go on a field trip to a planetarium. I was very disappointed and told my mother "Why do I have to go to a building to see plants?? I'm not going. I can see plants outside." This was FRIDAY, the NEXT FRIDAY I woke up and she made me go anyways. When I got to the plant-ittarium as I htought it was, I was pleasantly suprised, but mad because my mother hadn't explained the truth to me this WHOLE WEEK!
Growing up we had an inground pool in the back yard. It was wonderful during the hot missouri summers to just lay on a raft and float around for an hour or so. When I was young I was terrified of getting in the pool. I would float but I hated to get off the raft because I was scarred something would come up from the bottom of the pool(which is where a pipe sucked water and pumped it through to keep it circulating. It was terrifying. I would see dirt stirring around on the bottom and thought that something like a monster would form out of the dirt. It was really silly...but I still don't like to go in the deep end by myself-I'm 22. :-)
I thought that outlet malls were called outlet malls because they let you out of the stores, since there werent any corridors to walk through between the stores.
My friend's Dad told him that every time the ice cream van man played his jingle, it meant he had run out of ice cream
My mother always told my brother and I the ice-cream from the ice-cream truck or the "Dicky-Dee Man" (as we called it in Canada) was poisoned and we would get sick if we ate it. This was her "being cheap" effort to never buy it for us. But funny how when another kids parent from the neighbourhood bought it for us we never got sick or died???!!!!

The mailtruck was supposed to play music like the ice cream truck, but that the mailman's music box was broken.
When I was little and visited the Greek isles with my parents, I always saw "Rooms to let" signs and wondered how is it possible that 'toilet' is mispelled EVERYTIME? I also couldn't understand why the signs mentioned toilets-didn't all rooms have them as standard? And signs that just said 'Rooms'-did they not have a toilet?
When my brother was little, my father told him that a mouse lived in the little box on top of the street lights. When it got dark, the mouse turned it on. That was why they didn't all turn on at once, some mice thought it should be darker before they flipped the switch. He went to school and told all his buddies, who laughed him out of the room. He still hasn't forgiven my father - and my brother's 31.

As a kid I would always see those campers that had a ladder that ran up the back to the top and I thought it had a pool up there.
My daughter is 6 and asked me recently why I go into the tanning bed that stands up. She said the stand up ones are only for boys and the lay down ones for girls. Since boys stand up when they pee.
i remember my sister, 17, and I going shopping with my mom when walking thru a store, my mom stopped to look at picture frames. My sister, not realising the pictures in them were just for show, asked my mom 'Why would you want to buy a photo of someone you don't know??' Everyone laughed and she hasn't lived it down to this day!
When I was a little girl, maybe 9 or so, a new water tower was being built close to our house. We would drive by it almost every day as it was going up. My Dad told me that it was going to be a new type of zoo where the animals were going to be kept in areas within the cylinder shaped building and the people would walk around in circles on the different levels to look in at the animals. He went into detail about what animals they were going to have and that on the bottom floor was going to be a huge icecream shop. I was so excited and just couldn't wait until it was finished. Boy was I dissapointed when he finally fessed up...months later. But now that I'm a Mom and my Dad has passed away, I always smile when I pass that silly water tower.
i used to think that ice cream guys would kidnap kids and you could find little bits of kids in the ice cream. i always feared the face-shaped ones the most coz i thought those were heads of kids.
thank you to my little-kid insomnia and late night specials!!!

Up until I was in 3rd grade I believed my bathing cap is what kept me afloat in the swimming pool!
I heard a belief about a mother who used to tell hewr CHildren that when the ice cream van came down the lane playing the tune it meant he was out of ice cream! What an evil b***ch
I used to believe that soda fountains were just that - a fountain that spewed soda instead of water. I was always excited to go to one, but to my disappointed, there was no literal soda fountain.

My sister led me to believe that if you entered the store "Lechmere", a bunch of leaches would attack you and you would merely get away
When I was two or three my mom told me the ice cream truck was the Music Truck. His job was to come around and play music. (Every time he came around I had to "go inside" and "help my mom")
