For some reason, when I was little I used to think that if they were flowers in a store it meant it was someone's birthday. I could never figure out who, so I would just pick off one of the flowers, go up to some random person and go "Happy Birthday!!" No one ever refused the flower, but I imagine most of them thought it was pretty weird!
Shortly after reading "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel", my family traveled to New York City, where my brother explained that the steam pipes rising up from the pavement were from the steam shovels that had dug the skyscrapers, and had subsequently been paved over. I felt so sorry for all those poor, trapped steam shovels! He reassured me that they got out when there was road construction...

Here in Australia you usually see two water towers next to each other, one big and wide, the other tall and thin.
When i was Little i use to to think one was for cold water and the other was for hot water (seemed logical at the time) untill one day i asked my grandfather if one was for hot water, after everyone stoped laughing i found out the truth.

when i was little, i thought that people put up phone lines so that the birds could have a place to rest. i called them 'bird wires'.
As a boy fond of throwing and catching, I believed that if a ball or frisbee touched a telephone wire, the thrown object had to hit the ground before being caught to knock the electricity out of it. To not do so was to die immediately of electrocution. My friends still make fun of my continuing trepidation towards catching anything that has touched a suspended wire.
Once my grandma told me that my cousin,Brandon, went to the drug store with my other cousins Brock and Derrik. My eyes were wide and I was thinking 'haha! No Ive got something on him!' I didnt know that she ment that they went to buy medicen.
I was like 5 and I used to think that when you go into a store that you just have to show the guy behind the counter what you are getting and then you could leave (probably cause I couldent see above the store counter and never saw anyone give the clerk money) so one day when I was around 5, I left my house without telling my parents, walked all the way down an alley and into a liquor store grabbed like 3 boxes of boston baked beans, some sticks of gum and a beer that I was going to take home ofr my dad since he always brought stuff home from the store for me, when I showed the clerk he asked "wheres your mom or dad" and I jsut started crying, he called the cops, and the cop took me back home :(

I used to beleive the elevator in the Department store was somewhere you went while they rearranged everything.
Until recently, I believed that the food on the shelves was the only food that the stores had. Since I was told many times about the ill effects of smoking, I often wondered, "Why don't we just buy all the cigarettes? Then there won't be any left!"
When i was little i thought that it was bad to not be talking to somebody so when I was in public places and no one was talking i would pretend to be having conversations with people or myself so it didnt look like i wasnt talking.
When I was a kid i thought that stone lions in front of buildings (like libraries) were real lions that had been frozen, and i would whisper to them and tell them it was okay, and i would scratch them behind the ears.
When I was 4 years old, me and my 11 year old sister were playing near the window when a brown UPS truck pulled up to our house. She told me "Hide! Hide! Dont make any noise! They come here to steal children!" For years afterwards I was always on the lookout for that evil UPS truck.
Well when I was little we had an icecream woman. Then one year she stopped coming around with the ice cream and brought vegetables instead. My babysitter said it was because people like vegetables better than ice cream
when we were little and at a swimming party, my friend and i thought it would be cool to take our trikes into the pool and go for an underwater cruise, disregarding the importance of breathing and water resistance. Nevertheless, it seemed like a pretty good idea. My friend started to go in first. Although he fought fiercely to keep hold onto his trike and onto his mission, his mom grabbed him just as he was about to sink under, and the tricycle rolled down to the deep end.
I used to believe that the ice cream man solely played music. When i was growing up, my mom never wanted to buy me ice cream, so she just told me it was the "music man". whenever we heard the music from the ice cream truck, we would all get quiet and tell the other "Listen, its the music man!". It was a tragedy in 6th grade when i found out there was ice cream in that truck.

You know how on old buildings, down in the corner there is the "EST." followed by a date, like 1910 or something. For years I thought the "EST." stood for estimated, like they weren't sure, but they think the building was built around that date...
