When I was 5, I got a birthday card that had picture riddles. One of them featured a kiddie pool on top of a car. For several years I thought a "carpool" was literally a car that had a little pool, and I wondered why no one we knew had one...

When I was little I used to think that statues were actually the bodies of the famous people they depicted, covered in plaster. It seemed pretty normal back then, but now that I think about it, that's kind of creepy.

My mum used to call road humps sleeping policemen when I was younger, and so I thought that when policemen were tired they used to burrow under the road for a little nap. I even used to give the ones on my road special waking up calls, and was very angry with them for not waking up

When I was little I used to believe that the handicapped parking spots were where the people were supposed to park their wheelchairs before entering a store.

I used to believe people worked in the water tower, purifying the water and everything(that's why they had the stairs). I thought it would be a disgusting job, since pee would come in there too.

when i was little i used to always want to buy ice cream from the ice cream man, and sometimes my mom would give me money. but one time, when i asked for money she got fed up and said, "oh, that's the knife sharpening man! he comes around and sharpens peoples' knives to use to kill little kids who ask him for ice cream! please, whatever you do, DONT ASK HIM FOR ICE CREAM!" from then on, i was horrified at the knife sharpening man, aka the ice cream man. :P

As a kid, I was scared to death of turnstiles, thinking they were put there just to scare and endanger people. I was scared to death that they could trap me or impale me, etc.

Many years ago, a young British visitor was asked how he liked his trip to America. He said it was really great but couldn't figure out why so many people were selling their garages.

When I was young my father used to tell me that if I tried hard enough, I could do anything. The guy next door hated children more than anything, and he did yardwork everyday. After hearing what my father told me I went outside and demanded that he gave me chocolate chip cookies. I tried to get him to do this for so long, that he yelled at me and went inside. No wonder he hated kids...

I was always so amazed by those maps in the mall that say "you are here" I thought they were magic and could detect where I was at any given moment.

when i was about 4 years old, i used to think my mom would be getting french fries from mcdonalds whenever she went to the atm machine while in the car. When she was done getting some money, i would say, "where's the french fries, mom?!"

There was a Real Estate office in my town and it displayed pictures of the properties in some type of clear acrylic boxes behind the main counter. From the road, these reminded me of the donut bins at Dunkin' Donuts and I always bugged my grandparents to take me in for a donut. I believed this for years until one night my grandmother made my grandfather pull over so I could get a "donut". This finally stopped the pesting!

I used to believe streets that were first names, that's where everybody of that name lived. For example, on James Street, that's where all the James' in my class lived.

Until my son was about six, I had him believing the ice cream truck was "the music truck" that a nice old man drove around to make everyone feel happy.
When he got in first grade and saw kids buying ice cream after school, I told him that was a new thing they had just started doing!

One time when I was little my Mom and I were driving by this grocery store called the Food Lion. I asked my Mom, does the Food Lion actually have a lion? Her replie was that there was a lion and it was sleeping in the back to guard the food. I belived that till I was 7.

I thought the music would play faster or slower depending the speed of the ice cream truck. That's why the music stopped when the truck stopped.

My older brothers told me if a person did a belly flop off the high dive, their stomach would split open. They said they actually saw this happen at the local pool - blood and guts floating in the water. I never got my swimming certificate that year, because I refused to jump off the high dive!

Whell when i was about 4 we would always drive by a power substation when we would go and get groceries. I thought, living in florida, that the power substation was really an orange juice factory and it sent orange juice to all the houses thru the wires. We still joke about that one. (^_^)
