When I was little my mom always told me the "K" in K Mart stood for "kids" and that if I was bad she would return me and my sister for new children.
I used to be really afraid of swimming pool drains, and no matter how small they were I thought they were capable of sucking me in. I would never go into the deep end of the pool where the drains were, so I still can't swim very well.
When I was 5, my family and I were on vacation somewhere and we were swimming in the hotel's pool. I refused to go in the deep end of it because of the stingray that was laying in the bottom. I was sure it was going to eat me. In reality...*sigh*....it was the cover of the filter
I used to wonder why signs on buildings said "Off Ice", because there was only ice sometimes during the winter. I thought they were mean for not taking the signs down.
I used to believe…
while going down country roads i belived, freshly baled hay fields were cow grave yards. it made me sad to see so many grave markers .
I used to believe that houses walked about at night. When you were asleep your houses walked about and talked to other houses. This is why I thought they had to put nails in floorboards to stop them walking about. I still believe this and I'm now 42.
Up until I was about 7 or 8 I got the terms "funeral home" and "nursing home" confused for some reason. Nobody found out for quite some time, but unfortunately my Girl Scout troop decided to go Christmas caroling for the elderly that winter. Excitedly I informed everyone in my neighborhood that I was going Christmas carolling at the funeral home!
I use to feel sorry for my bathing suit because I thought it couldn't breath while it was under water so I would get out of the pool every few minutes so it could get a breath.
There was a burn outside of the house I used to live at as a child. Me, and a friend of mine at the time believed that if we dug at the side of the burn, we would find gold, and we spent all of our time digging for gold.
Yes, I had a strange childhood :)
On long road trips(long as in across the river to wal-mart, 5 min. at the most) my younger sister would keep asking, "Are we still in America?" She was about 4-5 at the time.
My mum's dad used to tell her that there were gnomes on top of buildings that pulled up lifts by long ropes
I grew up in Southern California. Where there are palm trees planted all over the place. Many streets are lined with palm trees on both sides for miles. I believed for years that if you followed any of these streets that you would end up at the beach. No matter what.
When I was about 5 my aunt caught me pushing all the buttons in the elevator at the mall. So she told me that a gremlin lived underneath the elevators, he made them go up and down by pulling ropes, and pushing all the buttons at once would piss him off. So until I was about 10 I took the escalator.
Up until I was almost 9, my younger sister and I thought that we could fool people into believing that we were mannequins at department stores, just by wearing clean clothes and holding very still. Whenever someone gave us a second and very confused look, we thought we were fooling them.
I had lots of fun whispering to her to stop breathing so we'd be more convincing. Oh, and she tried.
When we got really good at this game, we started trying it everywhere, especially places with long, boring lines. We were Navy brats. There were lots of those. Our favorite was banks. No one there ever seemed to notice that we weren't actually mannequins. Little did we know, they just didn't care.
When I was little my grandmother told my cousins and i that ice cream men peed in alleys and never washed their hands, so we never wanted ice cream because we thought they were disgusting
My family went to Disneyworld for a week, and I was extremely dissapointed that we did not use a rocket to get there. My mum says that's because Walt Disney used the misnomer Disneyworld instead of Disneyplace
I used to believe…
you know how there are warning signs on fences saying "beware of dog"? well, when i was little and i saw a Long Fence sign on someones fence, i thought it meant "beware, this is a very long fence"

My mother used to tell us that the ice-cream van man peed in the ice-cream. So we never asked for ice-cream when he came down our street.
