When I was around six my cousin told me that the orange balls they put on the telephone wires were there to twist the wires so the squirrels couldn't walk on them. It used to confuse me so much to see the birds land on the wires that the squirrels couldn't touch.

Needless to say I later found out that they're there so the airplanes don't hit them, but still every time I see them the first thought in my head is to look to see if any squirrels are on them.

I used to believe that if you sank to the bottom of the big pen of balls at Chuck-E-Cheese's (formerly Show Biz Pizza) there was a big room of angry men down there that would torture you. I never got in the big pen of balls at Chuck-E-Cheese

i had 2 older brothers who used to tell me awful things. they told me that cow pies were really acid and if you stepped in one it would immediately dissolve your leg. so when we visited relatives on a farm and we were going to walk across the pasture i became hysterical and my father had to carry me so i wouldn't accidentally step in an cow pie and dissolve

Right before I started Kindergarten, my mom told me that we would be going in a carpool. I was extreamly excited, envisioning the swim party that would be going on with my friends in this vehicle with a pool in the back!

When my husband was in grade school he and his friend went to a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. His friend suggested they split up and try to get as many autographs as they could. My husband ran up to the first man (in the stands) that he saw and asked for his autograph, the man kindly signed his glove and told him he may want to get a baseball players autograph next time.

Elevatiors were run by very strong, yet very short people. I used to throw change and small pieces of candy down the crack for them. They couldn't get paid enough and I figured they were hungry.

I dropped a new book down the crack by accident, and tried to convince my mom that the 'elevator men' would give it back to me if we asked them. She wouldn't listen and continued shopping.

She found me some time later after a department store employee rescued me from getting my head smashed between the elevator doors. I tried all the elevators to make the men hear me.

After that I tried to spit on the men, but I quickly gave up when I reaslized the danger of angering them.

I was just browsing the site, and came upon an interesting discovery. I just found out about two minutes ago, from a belief posted here, that fire trucks actually don't carry the water inside of them. And I'm 19.
Now that is seriously sad!

When I was little, we use to live on a corner and my older brother and sister used to tell me to go work the corner. I actually thought it meant work on the corner, so I would get my little nail kit and go out there and work until my mom would come home and yell at them for having me out there again. Siblings can be so cruel!

This was not a belief of mine but of a friend who lives in Budapest. There are several bridges over the river Danube and one of them is followed by a tunnel. My friend believed that the tunnel is there so that people can push the bridge into it in the evenings, else someone would steal it at night.

When I was little I used to believe that if you peed in the pool, the water you peed in would turn yellow and everyone would get out and laugh at you. Now I know that that was a lie. How do I know? You figure that one out

I thought thyat the big bags of laundry that I would see on the tops of trucks [I think the company was National] was money, like the armoured cars, and if they fell off, you cuold keep it.

my uncle wouldn't let us go swimming after lunch, he said it was the alligator's turn to use the pool. somehow, when i was 4 and moved from new orleans to houston the alligator came with me and lived under my bed. i was at least 24 before i was able to sleep without the sheets tucked in all the way around the sides of the bed and i will STILL pull my foot back if i notice it dangling past the edge of the bed.

Driving in the car one evening I asked my mom what the towers with the lights on them were for. She told me it was so low flying planes wouldn't run into them. I couldn't figure out why anyone would build a tower just so planes won't run into it. Later I learned they were radio towers, the lights were to warn the planes. Thanks for listening to the question Mom.

My father is twisted. When we were children, our dad used to take us for Sunday drives around the lake. Every now and then, just to spice up the same old trip, he would pull the car over and announce "Okay, it's time to get out. This is where we found you, and it is time for you to go back!" He would convince us that he found us by the side of the road and that our old Mom and Dad were looking for us.
