when i was little and we went on holiday. i used to be a complete pool baby and i wouldn't get out of the pool. so when i needed the loo i'd just go to the loo in the pool. i know it's disgusting but so was the toilet.

When I was about three, Southern Bell (one of the phone companies) had this commercial with an announcer guy and a woman at a hotel pool. The woman dove in and the announcer pulled this string and sharks came out of this holding cell, and the woman managed to get out in enough time. Because of that, I believed that there were sharks in a bin at every swimming pool, so a few months later when I started taking swimming lessons at the YMCA, I dove in the pool to go look for the sharks myself and was very mad when the instructors found me and wouldn't let me swim the rest of the day.
The strip of marquee lights flashing over the box office kept right on moving - right into the theatre walls, around the entire perimeter and back out again.
The sign reading, "Star Want Ads" I was convinced should read, "Star WANTS Ads", seeing as how they were promoting them so much.
I used to believe that little trapped slave kids lived inside streetlights and operated them, because I thought I heard one "crying out to me" one time when I was walking by.
Well once my aunt took me to see beauty and the beast on broadway when i was younger i had never been to a real theatre before so i asked what it was going to be like and my mom said 'it's like a movie thearte" so when we got to the thaetre and the show started, i cried out"where are the previews??"
I used to think that if you wanted to rent a Uhaul moving van, you had to use a van that had the name of the state you were moving to on the side (all of the vans feature a random U.S. state), and if they didn't have the state you wanted, you either had to pick another one or wait until somebody from that state moved to where you lived so that a van from the right state would be there. I even thought there a waiting list for popular states.
When I was young, I was quite confused about the purpose of elevators. I understood what they did, but I was always confused by the signs instructing you "in case of fire, do not use elevator". I always thought that meant that in case there was ever a fire, you should never use the elevators. So I wondered, why did they even bother to put them in?
I went to Catholic School and occasionally swam at a Catholic (Knights of Columbus) pool. Most of the other kids on my block went to public school and swam at a public pool.
Naturally, I thought there were two types of people in the world: Catholics, and "Publics".
It wasn't until an exotic (Jewish) family moved into the neighborhood that I was forced to re-examine my views on comparative religions.

I used to get 50p for the ice-cream van, and I always wanted to get a 99 (an ice cream with a flake) but I never asked for one because I assumed they were 99p, one day I asked my mum for a pound so I could get one, and she started to shout at the ice-cream man for over charging me! Poor ice-cream man, haha!
I was intrigued by barber poles. I would watch them continuously to see where the ribbons went and where they came from. I imagined them as being incredibly long, and I couldn't figure out how all that ribbon fit in there.

I used to believe that when the local Denny's Diner said, "Open 24 Hours" that meant that the waiters all lived at Denny's, without a day off, and only saw family when the family came to Denny's to eat.
When I was little, we once drove past a Jack in The Box and my sister told me that at exactly noon, Jack((you knwo the guy with the white face and the yellow hat?)) would pop out of the box on top of the big tall sign. I believed her til I was about 8 to 10 years old.
I used to believe that homeless people would catch germs from the unhygienic conditions, and that was why they used to have to get a big bottle of medicine from the chemists and take a big gulp straight out of it. I thought it must have been quick-acting too because they always looked as though they felt a lot better soon afterwards!
My grandparents owned an in ground pool in their back yard that me and my cousins loved to play in at a young age. They took great pride in that pool and the garden around it and were determined to keep it clean. In order to do that my grandmother told us that if you peed in the pool the chemicals in the pool would make it turn bright red and everyone would no what you did! All of us believed in this until quite recently!
