Directly across the street from my home was a very old house that was abandoned. Trees and things had grown up around it, and it looked creepy. During the summer, lightening bugs would fly in the house and it would light up the rooms of the house. I would sit and stare at the house looking for any possible movement of a ghost or something. When I got much older (and braver) I went into the house to get over my fear of it.

When I was about 2 or 3 hurricane Camille (I think) came close to the Tampa Bay area. My grandfather kept telling me to stay in the house, away from the porch, because there was a hurricane outside.

They were in the middle of building a pool in the back yard so I thought the pool had something to do with it. I kept thinking a giant KING (thinking he meant Harry King, not to be confused with Larry King) was coming out of the ground to because we had disturbed his place.

God I miss those innocent days.

When I was younger I lived in a terraced street...Me and my friends would all play out the back, climb trees, knock on doors, that sort of stuff. Anyway, there were always icecream men that came, 3 or four a day. Well because all kids have eyes bigger than there bellies, i wanted an icecream from every van that came. My mam clearly didnt like this so she told me that all the icecream had spiders in them except one van who was coincedently the cheapest. From then on I believed this and my mam saved lots of money!

i used to think that throwing letters in the letterbox at the same time they would arrive at the same address so i always put them in seperately...

i remember when i was swimming with my friends once, they said if you peed in the pool, a big yellow cloud would surround you so everyone would know who peed in the pool. i believed them for quite a while.

i used to think that if i walked across the street slowly when it was dark, a car would come out of nowwhere and run over me. so i would run as fast as i could across the street to whereever i was going.

When I was small, my father and I passed a massage parlor. I read the sign and informed my father that when I grew up, I would go to massage parlors all the time because I really liked massages. He laughed for a while, then explained that people go to a masseuse for a massage, not a massage parlor.

When my siblings and I were kids [a good thirty years ago], our parents would take occasional weekend trips with their bowling league to Las Vegas. They told us that Las Vegas is in Nevada. Well, just one block east of us, there was a street called... Guess what? NEVADA. We used to wander up and down that street looking for Las Vegas and our parents.

I used to believe that if you fell into a river you would get sucked into a water tower and it would be full of other people

When I was little, I hated holding my parents hands while crossing the road. my sister then told me if I didnt hold my parents hands, a car would eat me. she proved it to me when she we were at a car shop thing, she showed me a car with the front truck open. she said that was a car with its a mouth open. then , whenever I crossed the streets, I always went SCREAMING and begging my parents to hold my hands! lolz!

This isn't my belief, but something a friend of mine heard a small girl say as she was exiting a store.
In New Zealand, there's a store called "The Warehouse." In the commercials, it always says "The Warehouse -- Where everyone gets a bargain!"
This girl was only about three or so, and so she didn't know what a "bargain" was, only that everyone who went to the store got one. Apparently, she was heard crying and wailing upon leaving the store about how she "didn't get her bargain!"

my parents told me that the ice cream van was realy the child catcher from chitty chitty bang bang , needless to say as soon as the bells were chiming i was under the stairs im a very nervous person now hee hee

when i was a kid, i used to believe that in the utility shop that i passed by every day, they'd have a sale one day, and the price of a real big car would be $1 and i'd buy it

When i was around 4 we had a big pool in our back garden , i didn't know how to swim , meaning that my parents never even let me go near the deep end ( even if i did have those blow up arm things) ... after one close incident , my parents got me into believing that the reason why they didn't want me in the deep end was because a mean monster called Madame Hozze ( hozze meaning small pool in farsi) lived in the deep end ...and that she swallowed all children and that after they never saw their moms and dads again .. .i was traumatized ..and therefore didn't swim for years !

A friend of my niece used to think that if a straw in a drink had half a wrapper on it, then you were in a fancy Restaurant.

Everytime i heard i the icecream truck i thought that if you were quick enough you would be able to hide in his freezer and eat all the icecream you wanted LOL

On friday nights in summer my dad would take me and my brother to a "dairy queen" type of ice cream place. On the side of it was printed in bold black letters on a yellow background "DO NOT BLOW HORN" I used to think if we did, a bunch of thugs would come out of the building and take us inside and who knows what would happen to us after that...
