Every time we were in the industrial part of town i would see this big stormwater drain, more like a large concrete-lined canal. I honestly believed that if you stood in the drain you would immediately be cloned! So, if you stood in there long enough there would be an army of you....don't know where i got that one from!

There's a flag pole in the square down the street from my house and I used to think God had a chair on top of it where he'd watch over all of us

When I was very little there was and old man in my neighborhood that would talk a walk down my street everyday. My mom would sacre me and tell me that he was a crazy old man that took little kids and if i wouldn't finish my dinner he was going to come in the door and take me away. Till this day Really old men scare me.

I used to go with my dad in the car when he went to the gas station. He would always say "fill her up Ethyl." I used to think all gas station attendants were named Ethel. One day I asked my dad how come the gas station attendants (who were all men back then) had the same woman's name. He set me straight.

When i was little... My Mum and Dad used to tell me that when the ice cream man played the tune it meant that he had run out of ice creams!

I believed that the ice cream man had a face made out of boogers and that is why he couldn't eat the ice cream so he would give it to little kids to eat in the form of ice cream.

i used to believe that sleeping policemen were dead policemen covered with concrete that were buried in the middle of the road. i used to put my feet up when ever we went over them so that they didnt grab me and pull me down with them.

When I was a kid my mother made me hold on to the shopping cart as she pushed it along, so I would not wander off. This was so ingrained that to this very day (I am now 38) I still hold on to the cart when my wife and I are shopping. I am not even aware that I am doing it, and when I catch myself it always makes me laugh.

When my family lived in California, we had a very strange neighbor. When we moved in, I asked him what his name was. He replied, "I don't know!"

For the entire time we lived there, our next door neighbor was referred to as "Mr. I-don't-know."

I was three years old and it was the first time I was allowed to walk alone (supervised from a distance) to my best friend Lorianne's front door (three doors down) and ask if she could come out and play. Lorianne'e horrible older sister answered the door and promptly told me to GET LOST! I ran crying all the way back to Mum, screaming BUT I DON'T WANT TO GET LOST!

I remember how terrified I was - I thought I had to do what I was told !

My mum told me that after 6pm Ice-Cream vans only sold alcohol, cigarettes and newspapers - so there was no point asking for lollies when they came around in the evening..... cow

pick of the bunch

I used to belive that there was a magic underground room underneath the fotomat where little "fotomat gnomes" developed your pictures!

My parents told me that the ice cream truck was a "music truck" that went around playing music for everyone so that I would not want to get ice cream. (I was hyper enough as it is!)

When i was little may dad used to tell me that when the ice cream van used to play its tune - it meant that they had run out of ice crea - which, of course, i used to believe!

After watching the movie Jaws as a child I developed an increasingly irrational fear of sharks. I was convinced that sharks could survive in any bodies of water, including baths (baby sharks), spa pools (teenage sharks) and swimming pools (full-grown, eat-you-slowly-limb-by-limb sharks). To this day I don't like being in pools alone (baths ok) and swimming in the ocean terrifies me. Big Thanks to the makers of Jaws!
