The Salvation Army building in Crewe when i was growing up had the letters S and V missing from their name on the outside of their building. I thought they were called the Alsation army until I was 14 when they added the letters that were missing. I never could undertsand why everyone else called them the Salvation Army.

One day in the middle of summer, I woke up to the sounds of a constant thudding which seemed to shake the entire house. My first reaction from this peculiar noise was to look at my glass of water and i thought "dinosaurs are coming!"
When I finally faced my fear and got out of bed after listening to the dinosaurs getting closer, I looked out the window and saw a backhoe digging up the asphalt on the road...BOOM...BOOM

I used to believe that mall directories were magic because they always knew where you were.

When I was little I use to think watertowers were swinning pools in the air.
(pretty weird)
when i was little, whenever i went bowling, i was always told that the bowling pins were the poo from monkeys, and whenever the pins were reset, the monkeys would sit in the machine and be lowered to the floor, and they would poop out onto the lane, and it made sense because the top of the pin was skinny, and the bottom part was larger, so it kind of looked like a terd, keep in mind was really young
when i was a little ankle biter, in the summer when the ice cream van used to patrol around the neighbourhood it used to play the music, well whenever the music played my evil father used to tell me that that meant they had run out of ice cream, so everytime it came past it always played the music and i used to laugh at all the other kids run up to it thinking they'd be getting ice cream, it made me feel so clever, how wrong was i!
I'm not quite sure why I thought this, ut I did. I thought if you walked over a bridge in a cemetery, you had to fold your hands as if you were praying or it would break...
When I was younger me and my mother used to go shopping a lot. She tells me that I used to talk to the manequins believing that even though they didn't move that they were still looking at me. I used to have full blown conversations with them.
When i was a child i used to believe that my father owned all the cinemas in my city, because each time we went to the cinema we were never made to queue up. And i was very proud of my father. But when i understood that he just had a privilege card i was very disappointed
when i was young i used to believe my shadow was a person following me id sit and cry for hours and stamp on it shoutin 'go away' i had a few funny looks from passers by which i cudnt understand why they thout it was funny iwas very scared of this 'stalker haha dumb
When I was 5 or 6 I used to believe that there are huge caverns beneath the sidewalks and streets there were caverns with stalagtites. I think that the holes dug when the city streets where being worked on in the city where I live gave me this impression.
I used to believe that swimming pools could only run/be built facing east-west because the water would fall out if it ran north-south. Not sure where that came from, but I know it still comes up when we are with family friends....
I used to believe around age 5 That if you peed in the swimming pool water there's a special chemical in there that makes pee show up as the color purple. Boy was I scared to wee in the pool! One time when no one was looking I peed in the pool, and, to my surprise, all I saw was a few sprays of faint yellow spurt out into the water.
My Nana and PapPap told me this when I was really young to prevent little "accidents" in the pool. It worked for a while until I discovered the truth later on.
This is not my belief but one of my little cousin's.
When he was little, about 4, whenever he wanted to say Kentucky Fried Chicken, he'd say "Chucky Fried Chicken".
I used to fear the deep end of the pool when it was dark. Even though I would be swimming while it was light and knew there was nothing there. I would never go near it while it was dark and always kept an eye on it while in the shallow end.
The Jaws movies was partly to blame as well as when I was young I used to swim in a creek hole that was about four or five feet deep and could feel the frogs swimming by my feet. I think crab nipping at my toes also added to this fear.
I used to believe that when it got dark outside, there was a little dwarf-like man running under the streets switching all the lights on.. Now that I think about it .. He must have been a bloody good runner !!

i used to believe that the "coin wash" was to clean my dirty pennies.
I used to be scared of swimming pool drains cause I used to believe that a lake monster or a shark would come out of the drain and eat me. Whenever I would swim underwater and near the pool drain, I would swim away very quickly from it or try to avoid the drain altogether. For most of my childhood, I would be afraid of the deep end because of that belief. Luckily I don't believe that anymore. :-)
I used to believe that petrol stations were there because someone had dug for oil and found it and built the petrol station there. Then when they were closed down it was because the oil had run dry!
When I was little, I used to see "Hidden Driveway" signs and believe that they had been specially hidden for alert people to find, like Easter eggs or a game of Where's Waldo. So I was always very excited to see "Hidden Driveway" signs and look for the hidden driveway. After my sister informed me that the signs were just there to warn drivers about the driveways being hard to see from the road, I was pretty disappointed, and a little more magic went out of my world.
