When I used to go to our local swimming pool I always looked at the poster by a man called Will Patrons with some good drawings of people at the pool. It was in fact asking people not to do a number of things while there. Will patrons kindly refrain from running etc!

I used to bellieve that allotments were where you grew sheds.
My parents took my cousin and me to Madame Tussaudes waxworks in London. After about and hour or so my cousin said 'I'm fed up with all these people, when are we going to get into the cinema?'
When I was small, I believed that when you posted a letter in a letterbox, it travelled from there in an underground pipe to the Post Office or to its final destination.
I used to believe that the only way to get new safety pins was to send clothing to be dry cleaned, because in those days it always came back with the tag held on with the safety pin.
When building roads in the state I live in (U.S.A.), they use "local rock," e.g. rock from the quarry nearest the work site. Occasionally, this gives the road surface a slight tint of color, such as red or green. As a newlywed, moving here with my husband, I commented on the freeway having a greenish tint, and my husband told me that the state painted all the roads green. I actually believed him! He finally set me straight on the matter when he overheard me very seriously repeating his "tale" to a friend! Thirty-eight years later and I STILL can't believe I fell for that!!!
my parents and some friends rented a beach hut for a week one summer when i was about 5/6. i was confused when we gor there and there werent any beds i had no idea where we were going to sleep. no-one had thought to tell me that the beach hut is just for visiting everyday and that you go home later. i thought we were all going on holiday even though the beach was only 10 minutes from home!
When I was little I could never understand why the petrol company ESSO was pronounced the way it was. I always thought it should have been pronounced e-ess-ess-o!
Pre-empting my nephews entry in 20 or so years time:
I was at my brothers house and his three year old son was playing quietly with his toys. We heard the chimes of the ice cream van and William froze, my brother asked him what the chimes meant and he replied 'its the child catcher'!
'That's right,' said my brother, 'best you stay here where its nice and safe.'
- Fantastic!
When my father was a child, he didn't know that postmen had to empty the pillar boxes and take the post to a sorting office etc. He thought that when you put letters through the slot they dropped down onto a conveyor belt which took them to where they were going.
Also, when as children they had to say the Lord's Prayer he couldn't understand why they mustn't let anyone lead them into Thames Station.

My Sister Alison Used to tell me that if the chimes were ringing on the ice cream van it meant they had run out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when mommie was mad at me when i was little, she told me that she was going to return me to store where she originally bought me from. i thought kids got bought up until the age of 27.
i used to believe that when the ice cream van played the tune it meant that there was no ice cream left!!!
Because I was such a persistent child, my parents thought it prudent to tell me that the ice cream van was just a man who went around playing pretty music for the neighbourhood. They thought they were so smart until I was staying with a babysitter and I heard the ice cream man coming. I promptly said "My mom and dad thinks he just plays music but I KNOW he sells ice cream." She thought it was so cute she let me buy some ice cream and when my parents came to get me they found out that the jig was up.

I always thought that the ice cream man lived in the ice-cream truck, and he only could eat icecream and he was an eskimo.
My grandchildren believe that if you pee in the pool the water turns blue as a result of a chemical added to the water to prevent such things from happening and thus everyone will know when you have done it. Of course, this came from their grandpa, who told them this to prevent them from peeing in the pool.

I used to believe that whenever an ice cream van passed by and played its music, it meant that the vehicle had completley sold out of ice creams
I remember the first time I encountered barcode readers in a supermarket - I was about 8 and with an Aunt.
She had a trolley full of food and I couldn't understand how the checkout girl knew the prices and descriptions of everything as she took them off the conveyor.
It took me a LOT of years before I realised what was going on.
I used to believe that the music that ice-cream vans played was made by a witch - I always ran inside when I heard it, and it still sends a shiver down my spine! I blame 2 evil older brothers!
When I was a little boy of around 3, my family visited HMS Victory (Nelson's flag ship @ Trafalgar) in Portsmouth. Try as they might they could not get me to go aboard. I remember kicking and screaming in my effort to stop them, I thought we were going to sail away on this very old & unsafe looking ship. I did eventually did go onboard when my older sister told me that Nelson slept in a cot, just like me, naturally I had to see this cot for a grown man!
