There is a department store in Edinburgh built on a hill with exits at the front and back, and you had to go up stairs to reach the back exit. However, they were labelled the "Princes Street level" and "Rose Street level" exits, and I used to look up or down whenever we left the store and wonder where the other level was, because I could never see it...

When I was 5 I moved with my Mum & Dad and Brother & Siser to Kenilworth, which has a very old, ruined castle. We went to see some houses in Kenilworth before we moved there, and on the same day we visited the castle. Until we actually moved to Kenilworth (into a 3-bed semi) I thought we were going to live in the castle, and had nightmares about it!

I used to believe there was a tunnel running lengthways underneath the road, along which a man ran along at night switching the ‘cat’s eyes’ on and off.
I used to think that there were the exact same number of houses in the world as there were families, therefore if you wanted to move house you had to wait for another family who wanted to move on the same day, and you would both swap houses!
I used to believe when I was little that when those gas stations had the signs outside that said "Clean Restrooms", that it meant that you had to clean the restroom! LOL
I used to believe that if you were in an elevator too long you would run out of air and die...this is all thanks to my wonderful sister! Therefore, when on vacation in Las Vegas Hotels, my mother would have one heck of a time getting me up to our room on the 25th floor!

To avoid constant pestering for ice creams, my Dad told me that if the ice cream van played its tune it meant that they had run out of ice creams!
I used to see signs all over the place saying 'PARK AND RIDE' and wondered why my parents never to took me to this Park, which I presumed had swings and slides and Rides, like a fun fair.
Imagine my dissappointment years later when I discovered that PARK AND RIDE were out of town car parks where you can PARK your car and RIDE free on the bus into the town centre.
You know how 4-lane roads have the three strips in the middle? I used to think that the wide strips were roads for invisible mice and the spaces between the strips were roads for invisible cats, I was really obsessed with small furry animals in those days.
i used to believe that the little bit of water that you have to walk through at the swimming baths before you go in the pool was to warm your legs up. i believed this when i was a small girl. and also when i was a big girl. only last year at the tender age of 19 was i told that you did not sit down in it to get you body ready for the bigger pool of water, but simply had to walk through it to disinfect your feet. not really sure why no-one told me until last year, i must have looked very strange. also its a bit horrible as it means i was sitting in a load of water full of bits of people's minging feet. nice.
when i was just 5, i remember like it was yesterday, driving with my mom one night and i was asking her questions, and then i saw the search\spot light circling in the sky, { from a store's grand opening}...and i asked her what it was, and she told me it was looking for me, i better hide so they dont get me!! i flew down to the floor and wet my pants,
Once when i was little i reallyr wanted to go to the pool but it was too cold so i decided to make a pool in my room. You know how in cartoons characters will fill up a room with water and when the door opens all of the water spills out like a wave?? I locked my room and started pouring water onto the carpet, and stopped after finally realizing it wasnt working.
When I was around 5 or 6, I remember asking someone what the big bubble was under the pool cover in my neighbor's backyard at the end of my street. The person told me it was a giant fat lady under there hiding, waiting to snatch up any little kids and eat them. So, everytime I would go by that house, I ran like hell.
I used to believe there was a tribe of indians living behind a long wooden fence alongside the path I used to take to school. I had to hold my breath as I went past this fence or they would kill me. What a tribe of indians was doing in the middle of Cambridgeshire I really don't know.
I uesed to believe that when I posted a letter a little person would snatch the letter from my hand and run along a tunnel to its destination. The "little person" would appear like a mole in the garden of the recipient and post it through thier letterbox. It was years before I connected the friendly postman with the receiving of mail.

My mother told me that ice cream vans were ambulances for little children.
I used to believe…
you know how sidewalks have the main squares and then the little three-inch borders next to the street? when i was 5 i thought that we walked on the people sidewalk and that that was the birdie sidewalk.

When I was about 10 to 15 I thought that if I weaved back and forth when I walked, that if someone shot at me, they'd have a better chance of missing.
I told my nephew that when the ice cream van played a tune it meant he was out of ice cream. He believed it.
Ya know how kids just love to stand up in the shopping cart and the mom always tells the to sit down? Well after my mom telling me that if I didn't sit down, the cops would come to get me, and not 2 seconds later, I heard a siren...I didn't move an inch
