We were told if the music was playing from the ice-cream van that they'd run out of ice-cream.
Needless to say, excitement on seeing the van was always short-lived!

A friends mum's told us that ice cream vans played their tune only when they were empty. It was like a siren so people would stay out of their way while they went and collected more ice cream.
