When I was little, I heard someone say that the pianist "played by ear". I took this literally and thought that he played the piano with his ears. At one point, my belief was confirmed when I saw someone on a cartoon doing this.

I used to believe that there were sharks in waterbeds.

I used to believe that bras were bullet-proof vests for women.

I used to believe that when the judge sentenced a criminal to an impossibly long sentence (like 100+ years) that they kept his body in prison after he died until it was there for the whole sentence.

Camille Noire

I used to believe that in Hollywood, the actors weren't actually kissing, they were just mouthing the air. This is thanks to my dad telling me that they made the male actor eat garlic before shooting a scene so that the woman would want to "kiss" the air and not the man.

Annie

When I was about six years old, I asked my father where people go when they die, and he told me, "Star Trek". I believed this for at least a year.

Madeline

My dad was in the army and I heard them marching and shouting as they went "Left! Left! Left! Right! Left!" I wanted to emulate him but I though you had to take three steps with your left and one giant step with your right leg. I thought being in the army would be soooo hard. It wasn't until 6th grade that I finally figured that it was just to keep timing. Hmmm.

You know when women go in to have the ultrasound? Where you can see the baby on the television screen? I used to think they were checking for weasels.

Reid

when i was little my friend told me that when you get baptized, they kept you underwater until you caught a fish in your mouth. and i believed him, it took me a long time to figure out that was wrong.

I used to think that "cross-eyed" meant that people had X's for eyes, like dead people in cartoons.

I used to believe that the clouds in the sky were floating piles of mash potatoes.

Funny Guy

My cousin told me there was a button in London which only the Queen could press and it would blow up the world. I prayed for a very long time that the queen would not get angry!

When I was younger I thought "the speed of light" was the time taken for the lights to come on after you had pressed the switch. I concluded that is was pretty quick, and that flourescent tubes were slower than ordinary bulbs.

Malik Man

I used to believe that the phrase "add sugar to taste" on products meant that if you did not add sugar it would not taste.

As a small girl my mother and I lived up the hill from my grandparents. At dark I would walk up the hill home from visiting. I knew living in the mountanis we had lots of wild animals about. I thought if I told them all I loved them, none of them would come eat me.

Georgia

I used to believe (and still do) that my history teacher came from another era and travelled through time to teach us our lessons, then go back to whatever era he was supposed to be in.

Fred

------------------------------

Until about age 11 I thought that "Hush Puppies" the shoes were made from real puppies!

Laura

------------------------------

On the Elvis Presley song 'Good Luck Charm' there is a strong harmony backing vocal. I used to think that he was singing both parts simultaneously. This largely explained to me why Elvis was so highly regarded as an artist.

George

------------------------------

I live in a town next to a large ICI chemical plant where my grandad worked. There was often a stink floating in the air and grandad told me that the smell was coming from a furnace in which all the worker's sweaty socks were burned every day so they didn't have to wash them. I was 27 before I thought 'hang on a minute...'

carol

------------------------------

When my mom was driving the car, she used to yell 'indicators!' really loudly to people who didn't use their indicators. I used to think it was a swearword so i cried every time she said it.
