happy trick-or-treating!

macabre mat.

------------------------------

My grandmother frequently tells everyone that, when I was young and in a cemetary for a funeral, I claimed, "It's all right, when it's night, they all come out and dance."

Amy

------------------------------

I read somewhere that you can only see ghosts in mirrors and you can't see vampires in them at all. This made washing my hands in front of the bathroom mirror at night very tricky as I'd have to stare into the mirror checking for ghost and whip my head around every few seconds to make sure no vampires were sneaking up on me.

When I was little, my first teacher told us to smash up the shell of our boiled eggs so the devil couldn't use them as a boat, but my Grandmother would tell us not to play with our eggshells, otherwise we'd get warts, I worried for quite dome time whether it was best to be warty or demon posessed.

When i was little up until I was about 10 or 11, I thought that vampires would try to get girls at night, s i would pull my covers up to my neck; That way, I could feel the vampire trying to take the covers off of me to suck my blood in time to wake up my stuffed animals, who would attack the vampire while I ran away to saftey.

When my son was little, he told me that he knew why we buried dead people .... then he carefully explained ..... 'so we don't trip over them.'

Squeak

------------------------------

After my Grandad died, I thought at night he was in my wardrobe, and would be hanging up by a coathanger behind my snorkel parker.

Jim

------------------------------

I used to believe that since ghosts were bad they ate everything kids hated like medicine and vegetables. I used to leave the ghosts I thought lived on my back stairs food I hated. Now I realize it was mostly that cats that ate the food especially since I put catfood there alot.

Mandy

------------------------------

I used to believe that my nightlight stopped ghosts from haunting me, because ghosts only come out in the dark, and that sleeping with my blanket pulled up over my neck (even in summer) would prevent vampire bites. Which makes perfect sense, considering the well-known vampire aversion to gingham.

kayjay

When I was little, I had heard of the boogieman, but I never exactly knew what he was, because, of course, I never met him. Because of his name, I though he was a man who lived in your closet who came out at night and danced with you, so I always looked forwards to meeting the boogieman, unlike most kids!

Ken

------------------------------

When I was little my sister convinced me that she was a vampire and that during the night she was going to suck out all my blood. After losing a few nights of sleep, I decided to pack the underside of my pillow with garlic cloves so she wouldn't suck out my blood. My mom couldn't figure out where all her garlic went till she caught the scent coming from our bedroom. Of course my sister was punished and I gloated.

Gina

------------------------------

When I was a kid I used to read horror books. Mom said that I shouldn't read those, so I did. One book scared the crap out of me. I believed that the monster would come and get me. I shared a room with my sister. I rearranged the beds so that if the monster came in it would see her first and I had time to get away.

------------------------------

My great grandmother died when I was 9. I didn't go to the funeral because I thought she'd be a skeleton.

Angela

------------------------------

Until I was about ten or eleven, I was convinced that vampires lived behind the U-bend of our toilet, and that if I spent too long sitting on the loo that they would come up and attack me.

Mat

------------------------------

When i was around the age of five i used to believe that my older sister mutated into a zombie in the dark...seeing her in the morning didn't help much either...

Krissy

------------------------------

I used to believe there were all sorts of nasty monsters waiting to eat me, but I was safe because Captain James T. Kirk was always there to protect me.

Jonana

------------------------------

I used to think that to truly be safe from vampires while you slept you had to sleep on your back with your arms crossed neatly over your chest. That way, if they pulled back the covers they would think that you were already undead and leave you alone.

fletch

------------------------------

I was born on Halloween, and until I was about 10 or 11 I used to believe that the costumes, trick or treating, parade, etc. were all in honor of ME.

Jane, New York

------------------------------

I used to be one of those kids who thought inanimate objects came to life at night when no one else was around. Now, around Halloween, this became quite a problem. My mom used to go all out decorating the entire house with skeletons, a life-sized Dracula that sat at our dinner table, and even a replica of the killer from Scream. It didn't help that there was a giant fake spider web, complete with huge fake spider that was right outside my room (Spiders are my worst fear). Needless to say I never got much sleep for the entire month of October. Looking back on it now, I was also rather afraid of one of the Santa decorations that was put up around Christmastime. I was a rather troubled child.

Kaitlin

------------------------------

When i was little, i had a guy jump out at me from underneath the leaf piles on the side of the street. This was on halloween. For a while after that, i thought that people were actually buried in those leaf piles, but later i found out the truth.

shaman queen

------------------------------

When I was about seven, I believed that a ghost would come and steal me in the night. I spent a couples of years only being able to sleep if I was gripping the edge of the mattress.

demonrachel

------------------------------

I used to think I was a vampire, and that my parents were trying to kill me by making me go to school.

Max

------------------------------

When I watched a horror movie on HBO as a kid (namely Alien or The Evil), my stomach was very knotted. I figured that it was because my stomach could view the movie as well, so I would stand behind a chair to shield my stomach from the horrible scenes.

Kuildeous

------------------------------

My (well-meaning) auntie thought it would be a treat for me to stay up and watch the late night movie with her whilst she was babysitting. It happened to be Dracula, and I was only 6. My parents were surprised to find me in bed the next morning with crusifixes drawn all over my neck in biro......

Hannah

------------------------------

When I was around 4 or 5, I used to believe that the rock band KISS were really monsters and vampires, not understanding all the makeup and costumes. Often I had a nightmare that they were controlling this vacuum cleaner robot that was chasing me.

Anon

------------------------------

I used to believe that if I didnt cover at least my neck vampires would come and suck my blood out. At the same time if I didnt cover my arms I believed witches would cut them off at exactly midnight and use them for their stews. And if I surpassed them by covering my arms I believed I had to cover my feet so Aliens wouldnt cut them off and take them as shoes..
