My poor dear friend "Al" had a belief until he was 31 that is just so sad. He came from a family of abusive alcoholics that were extremely dysfunctional. One day we were out at some event in a park - it might have been a 4th of July picnic - and it came out that he honestly believed that all the families and kids that appeared to be having fun and getting along nicely with each other were only playing their proper public roles. In his family that was how everyone was supposed to act in public so the "social workers wouldn't get them and take them away". But all the way til that conversation at the age of 31, he believed that all the happy families were just play acting. I think he may still, to this day, have a few doubts on it. Its so sad that anyone has to grow up in a way that could allow them to believe that and for so long.

I Used To Belive That If You Were Pretty, You Were A Princess. So One Day My Dad Told Me I Was A Princess (He's Teases Us All The Time. He Was Born On April Fools Day). And I Thought Suddenly, My House Turned Into A Castle. So At The End Of That Day, I Asked "Daddy, Am I Really A Princess?" He Told Me No And I Cried Myself To Sleep That Night.

I used to believe that if you were taller than someone, you had to be older than them.

I used to think that when you became an adult (at about the age of 13) you had to change your name to an 'adult' name. This was because I had never met an adult with the same name as my kiddy friends, or vice-versa. It seemed very plausible.

I think this was made worse by asking my mum how old people were when they changed their names, and what adult name I would like to have. Misunderstanding me (she thought I didn't like my name and wanted to legally change it) she told me it could only happen when I was grown up.

I used to believe that my birthday was celebrated on the 22nd of every month... I actually expected presents! When I didn't get any, I thought my parents had forgotten, and I would wait for the next month!

On a worksheet at school, we were given the task of going through a list of different animals and picking out the ones that were mammals.

Curiously, one of the choices on the list was "clown", so I spent a long time believing that clowns were a different species to people.

Not all erroneous beliefs can be attributed to the ignorance of youth. When I was in college we convinced a good friend that you could save on shampoo costs if you froze it and then sliced off a thin portion when you needed it. We found her shampoo in the freezer the next day. Don't worry, she went on to get her Ph.D. in biochemistry.

When I was little everytime I made a wish on a birthday cake or dandelion, I wished that I would turn into a magical lion. I wouldn't settle for any ordinary lion, nope, I wanted to be a magical one. I was so upset when I didn't turn into one, like my birthday cake ripped me off or something.

I'm only finding out aboutdat "Anon" thing now, and i was wondering why "Anon" was in orange!

My one son Conlan (who was four) was trying to get his twin brother, Torin's, attention one day by repeating his name over and over: "Torin, Torin, Torin, etc." When Torin ignored him, Conlan started shouting "Mister Torin, Mister Torin, etc." because that how you got your teacher's attention. I just laughed and said, "Conlan, it's just regular Torin." So then Conlan started to shout, "Reglar Torin, Reglar Torin, Reglar Torin!!!!!" (incorrect spelling intentional)
