My mother took my brother and I to visit our neighbor, Miss Edna. She was a very friendly old lady who gave us candy. But, after we rang the doorbell, her adult daughter answered instead.
My brother asked my mother, "Did Miss Edna get a new head?"
He didn't realize that it was a completely different person.

When I was younger, I was watching "Pop-Up Video" on VH1, and Cher's "Turn Back Time" music video came on. One of the informative pop-up bubbles appeared saying something about cross-dressing. I naturally assumed that Cher was cross-dressing in the video, as her outfit was made entirely of strips of fabric going 'across' her body, and believed for the longest time that this was how one could cross-dress.
I thought that all pockets on clothing just provided a place for you to rest your hands, and I thought something was wrong with me when it wasn't comfortable to keep my hand in the chest pocket of my T-shirts.

In second grade, my friend and I were very into the movie Grease. We thought that John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John and the other actors from Grease would hang out with us if my friend invited them to her birthday party. John actually wrote back and said that he wouldn't be able to make it, but he wished her a happy birthday!

When I was about 6, I was convinced that a killer clown lived in my bathroom. Every time I would need to go, I would have to check behind the door and shower curtain, under the sink, and in the hamper.
i used to think everyone with the same name looks and act the same. my name is sarah...u can imagine how petrified i was when i was until one day this girl came to my school, her name was sarah (ironically), she didn't look anything like me. Then i asked her how she spelled her name...it was without an H....ahah
I used to think that when I was a LADY I'd finally be allowed to be older than my sister (who's 2 years older than me). I was born in June and she was born in July, and I could never work out how she could be two years older, when My birthday was always before hers. Life's SOOOOOOO unfair!

When I was really small (maybe 4) I thought all men grew up to be called John! My dad and grandad are Johns and I guess because John Smith is a 'general' name for a man (at least in the UK)... I don't know. It didn't seem to confuse me that my Uncle is called Peter, I just wanted to know when my name would change!

When I was younger I used to find it pretty surprising how my Dad could call my Grandad (his Father-in-law) names and get away with it.
I remember later telling Mum in the most concerned voice; "Mum! Dad called Grandad DICK!"
Later I found out this was due to his last name being Whittington and had something to do with the story of Dick Whittington and his cat.
