I used to believe…

when i went through my 'lying stage' at about 3 years old, my mom figured out a way to stop me of it. She would say that if she knew I was lying that my tongue would turn blue. So, when I would lie (which is obvious at 3), my mom would say, 'Let me see your tongue'. She would say, 'Yep, just as I thought, you were lying'. Then, I would look in the mirror and there it was - a big blue tongue.
Everytime she would say let me see your tongue, she would touch it with her finger which had blue food coloring on it. After a couple of times, she would not have to catch me in a lie bc I would give myself away by looking in the mirror before I did lie.
I stopped the incesant lying.

My name is Erin, my birthday is shortly before St. Patrick's day, and I grew up in an area with a large Irish population. For a few years, I thought all the "Erin Go Bragh" signs in store windows etc. were for me! I couldn't figure out why they said "Go Bragh" instead of "Happy Birthday" or something like that though (I could read pretty well).

I used to believe that you could only be born on a holiday or someone else's birthday. Funny enough I still believe that now..my oldest daughter was born on my birthday, and my other daughter was born on "Patriot's Day" (the OLD patriots day AKA Paul Revere's Midnight Ride not to be confused with the new one on Sept 11th.)
Just where does this belief come from? Hmmm...

My Bday April 4th (sometimes also Easter)
May 31/June 2 & 3rd Parents Anniv, bdays
Feb 18 Bro's Birthday (near Valentine's Day, honest to god he was late, and I thought my parents were worried because he missed the 14th, but made up for it by being born in the car in a blizzard!)
and my poor little brother was born on Oct 15....so I saved him by getting married on Oct 16th!
And he still won't let me live down that his birthday was overshadowed by my Rehearsal Dinner! :-)

So now..I tell the children it's the truth, you just don't know the person who shares your birthday yet, or the holiday will be invented just wait!

When I was just getting ready to start kindergarten, my dad tried to teach me to write my name. He wrote "CRYSTAL" on a sheet of paper and told me those were the letters to my name. He didn't understand when I wrote"LCATRSY" (or something similar).
I thought the letters were MY letters (and no one elses) and I could use them in any order I wanted.
I wonder just how worried he was about me starting kindergarten.

My two sisters and I were all born on Presidents birthdays.

My oldest sister = Kennedy
My middle sister = Lincoln
Me = Eisenhower

When I was younger I thought everyone in the world was born on a President's birthday. It made perfect sense to me then! =)

My dad's a farmer, and so we have CB's in our tractors. He always used to say "Hey you!" over the radio to someone else, and I actually thought someone's name was HeyYou. It didn't help that he told me someone WAS named HeyYou...but later on he said he was pulling my leg. I was so broken hearted...

I knew what anonymous meant and that anon was an abbreviation. But I thought that Bacon was another name for anonymous. I didn't think anyone's last name could be Bacon.

My birthday is in February and my sister's is in April. We were two years apart, so when I had my birthday, it would look as though we were only one. (As in, I would be 7 then, and she would be 8) I used to think that someday I would end up older than my sister.

When I was a kid, my parents had a good friend named David who was in his 40s. He was called Big David and I was Little David. I thought that when I grew up there couldn't be two different Davids and I would have to change my name. I liked Jason.

I am from the Washington D.C. area and when I was younger, the former Mayor, Marion Barry, was in the news quite a bit. For some reason, I didn't understand that he was just one person -- I thought it was really nice that they let a husband and wife team run the city - Mayors Mary and Barry! What is even more amusing is that my twin sister thought the exact same thing even though we never discussed it!
