I used to think that all people who were called "John" were actually named "Jonathan" and "John" was just the shortened form of the name. Same thing with "Chris" and "Christopher", as well as "Alex" and "Alexander".
I used to believe (the neighbor girl told me this when I was four) that families in Japan took baths together in bath houses, where the bath water used was human pee, (undiluted).

When I was six or eight I had just finished shopping with my mom and older brother. We were walking in the parking lot to our car, disscussing our astro signs. I, with my vast knowledge of astrology, knowing my sign, I proudly declared, "I'm a virgin!" ... It took me a year or so to find out why they were laughing so hard.

When I was about 5 I had this crazy fear of clowns. I thought that clowns would come into my room and eat me. So every night I locked my door and had a pie over my bed. (For a few days before everyone started noticing the stench)

My birthday is on August 8. My aunt, my father's sister was born on August 10. I could not for the life of me figure out how she was older than me. By my reasoning, if you were born on May 6th, you should be older than someone born January 20th. If you were born September 17th, then you should be younger than someone born June 9th.
I thought that Indians got their bindi dot at birth. I kid you not, I thought that when a baby in that culture was born... that the doctor had a tray of jewels for the mom to pick out. Then the doctor would surgically implant the jewel onto the baby's head.

When William Kennedy Smith was on trial for rape in Florida I didn't understand how he was related to the Kennedys and could be a first cousin to JFK, Jr. I knew that Kennedy was his middle name, but I didn't realize until later on that many individuals are named for their mother's family. Dr. Smith's mom is Jean Kennedy-hence his middle name Kennedy.
I also still confuse Mary Wollstonecraft and her daughter Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley since their names are so similar. At one time I thought that they were the same person.

When I was 4 I went fishing with my grandfather. He opened a can of tuna for lunch and tossed it in the water. When I questioned him about it he said "Don't worry the cans are made with a special metal the desolves." I went on thinking this until I was 13 and was looking at a can of tuna wondered why the water inside didn't desolve it.

When I was little, I believed that every person with the same name had to look exactly alike. Example: Every Michael looked alike, every Jane looked alike.. you get the idea. Kind of like how all the different kinds of Barbies, Kens, etc. all look alike. I met another Samantha and she didn't look anything like me. I made her cry because I told her she was a "Samantha Imposter" and that there was no way that could possibly be her real name. Whoops.

when i was 6, my big brother (12 at the time) told me that on the other side of the world there was a person exactly like himself, and whenever either of them bumped their heads, they switched bodies! i actually believed this, and to make matters worse, my bro would hit his head and then start saying things likw "who are you?" and "why am i here?" i would run screaming from the room
