I used to believe…

My parents are friends with another family from work, and this family has two kids, both of which are younger than me. One day, when they came over with their sons to visit, I got bored and told them that the antennae on the roof was actually an alien spaceship, and that if they got too close to the fireplace, an alien would come down, grab them, and eat them. They believed it entirely, and I thought it was pretty funny until they started throwing basketballs at the "spaceship"!

well you know how on this website when you post a belief, you don't have to put your name and your name just shows up as "Anon" (short for anonymous i suppose). well, i was reading these funny beliefs and i was like, "woah, this person, Anon, keeps submitting a lot of beliefs. they used to believe a lot of strange things, huh." and then one of the beliefs said that she was French, and i was like, "wow, i didnt know Anon was a french name." and then it came to me...Anon is Anonymous!

When I was about four years old, my mother read a story to me that dealt with children of different colors. I asked my mother what color we were, and she answered, "We're white." I replied, "I'm not white; I'm beige." My mother just about died laughing.

My birthday is on July 4th and, when I was little we always went to the park and had a picknic. Everyone including myself had fireworks back then and, all celebrated at the same time. Until I was about 6 years old I thought every one else was celebrating my birthday with me. What a disappointment when I found out the truth.

If you pulled a face and the wind changed it would stay that way.

When my brother irritated me I would risk a quick horrible face and think that I was so lucky the wind didn't change.

I recently had this conversation at the dinner table with my 7 year old brother...

me- Sit down and eat your supper.
him- Why?
me- Kuz you should be glad you've got a butt. Just think about all of those poor little children in Africa... they don't have enough money to afford butts. They can't even sit down.
him- How do they poop?
me- They can't! They just get bigger and bigger till they explode!

He believed me for awhile, till our mom told him the truth.

I have a heart shaped face and in the middle of my forehead I have a dent that you can't see, but you can feel, it actually feels like the outline of a heart. When I first noticed it I was about 5 or 6. So one day i showed it to my dad and I asked him why was my face made like a heart and he said, "your mama and I were so much in love when we made you and you came out to be a love child". I was so happy when he told me that, I believed that all the way until I was about 15. even now as I think about it, it brings a smile to my face, just to think that I am actuall a love child.

When I was in grade school, I was very confused about the terms "hooker" and "playing hookie". Trying to sort the terms out, I wondered if everyone who skipped school did so to engage in prostitution. Regardless, I considered myself a "hooker" because I faked sick to stay home and watch TV.

when i was younger my older sister, and my two neighbors tricked me into thinking that if they went into the garage they could warp into the car motor and become smaller and travel through the car. they told me i was too young to do it, and when they came out they pretended to have heart failure. i actually believed them for a whole year. when they would go in the garage they would shut the door and yell like they were traveling. i was stupid.

On my 4th birthday, my mom had a clown come and do magic tricks. He put a fake thumb on my mom's hand and pretended to cut it off. I thought he really did cut it off and I started sobbing.

my little sister used to chatter non-stop at night when we went to bed. To get her to be quiet, i would tell her every night "be quiet, or else the (random name of animal or made up creature) will come to get you!"

so one night, she is starting to chatter before the lights are even out, so i tell her "be quiet! or the wild wild wombats will come to eat you up!"

by now she had been catching on to my plot, so when my mom came in to tuck us in, she asked "mom, is there such a thing as a wild wild wombat?" to which my mother replied "yes, of course."

my sister broke out into hysterical tears, and i broke into hysterical laughter. it took my mom a good twenty minutes to calm either of us down enough to tell her what had happened.

Until a few years ago, I though 'Anon' was a person - I kept seeing their name next to poems and music and thought 'wow, this person Anon must be amazingly prolific! And talented...composing music as well as writing poems!' I didn't realise my mistake until I happened to mention it to my mum and she put me straight!

My son came crying to me about 3 days before his 5th birthday. "I don't want to be a girl" he said through tears. I had no idea what he was talking about, and couldn't calm him down. I could however figure part of the reason. I went looking for his older sister and found her laughing. She had convinced him that on his birthday he would automatically be a girl by telling him it had happened to her.

My best friend in fourth grade was really mean to me. One night, I was sleeping over at her house and she was telling me about how much she hates her parents and her siblings. I made her believe that her whole family was robots and that my fourth grade teacher(we both had different teachers in school) was the person behind it all. He would come into their house while everyone is sleeping and take her parents and her siblings and then replace them with robots. The "real" people were then taken hostage in my teacher's basement. She believed me for a long time. Then she would start to cry and tell me that she miss her parents and her siblings and she want them back. I would tell her that I will talk my teacher into letting them come back.
