I used to believe…

When I was very, very young I thought that when you grew up you were given an "adult name." I spent a long time wondering what name I would be given (Elizabeth sounded so childish) and was actually a bit afraid of getting a scary adult one like my mother's (Harriet).

I eventually worked up the courage to ask my mother about it. Her reply boggled my mind.

When i asked my friend what she did as a job, she sarcastically replied "a lollipop lady".

Stupidly, i believed her for a years. Until I asked why i never saw her, i had no idea. Embarrasingly, i was 15 and should have known better

My uncles birthday is on Guy Fawks and he use to believe that everybody let off fireworks just for him. He is more educated on the matter these days.

I used to believe, bizarrely, that everyone had a different birthday. Eg. because I had 'bagsyed' Sept 11th, no-one else had it.
This was very stupid of me because I knew how many days there were in a year, and that there were millions more people than that in the world.
Still, I believed it.

When I was about five, I was told by another boy that if you ate a banana whole, without having to bite it into pieces, that you wuld turn into Bananaman from The Dandy! Quite a dangerous little fib come to think of it...

If I remember correctly, it was in junior high school when some kid told me that "coletus" in the Eagles' song "Hotel California" meant 'little boy penis'. ("Warm smell of coletus rising up through the air.") I was horrified that grown men would sing about young boys in that way, and wondered why those boys had genitals that smelled that strongly. I still don't know what the true song lyrics are, or what "coletus" is.

Clowns . . .
When I was maybe 4 or 5 years old my older brother (he was all of 6 or 7 at the time) explained that clowns were a separate species. He knew this because he had seen "clown babies" on the TV. And I certainly believed every word my big brother spoke.

when I was about 5 or 6, i was in detention for talking with a boy in my class and he confided in me that he was really the Red Ranger from power rangers and I admitted to him I was the pink ranger. I find this sooo funny now.

When I was younger I thought everybody was born on the same day. My birthday is May 19 so I thought everybody was born on that date. Whenever some kid said his birthday was in February, I was like "No, that's not your birthday! Your birthday is May 19"

I had heard that people got their ears pierced by having the earring shot through their ear (with a gun of some sort). I thought that they stood you against the wall, took careful aim ... and if they missed, that was how you wound up with nose or eyebrow piercings.

When my sister was about eight, she asked my parents how to crack a walnut. My parents decided to have some fun with her, so they said "First, put the walnut in the nutcracker. Then, hold it in your hand, and hold your breath. Now, hop around on one foot in a circle." My sister actually did it and it is now and forever known as The Walnut Dance.

I thought that my parents made me write thank-you notes for my birthday and xmas presents because they were jealous that I got so many presents and therefore wanted to punish me.

When I was little, I used to believe my brother. Big mistake. One time, he was chasing me around the house, trying to catch me so I could receive my daily beating. I was able to out run him and got to my bedroom just in time to close and lock the door. He was pounding on the door and yelling. Then, finally he got quiet and calmly said, "If you open the door now, I won't beat you up as bad as if you open it later." I opened it and received the beating of a lifetime.

My son had very light blond hair as a small boy and we called him our "little toe-head". He'd always say, "Nossir!" Years later he confessed that he thought we were telling him his head was shaped like a big toe. Poor baby.

I used to believe…

When I was four years old I believed that I was the oldest in our family since it my birthday was first in the year. Holding on to that logic, my father was younger than me because my birthday was 6 april and his was 23 april. I can remember I got very upset when my parents tried to convince me that this wasnt true.

I used to believe that only one person could have each name, and so I was the only Rachel in the world. Then one day we were at McDonalds and I overheard a lady calling her daughter Rachel. I was heartbroken.

We went to the beach for a week once, and my cousins and me were going out to the boardwalk to go on rides and stuff. My youngest cousin was too young to go, and so we told him we were being forced to go to the broccoli museum. He laughed at us when we got back because he got to stay home and play cards with my grandmother while we were forced to eat broccoli. ^_~
