The priest came to visit our school near Christmas when I was four, and he said 'does anybody know whose birthday it is on 25th December?' I put my hand straight up and yelled 'Mine!' He said no, and asked someone else, who said Jesus. I never wanted anything to do with Jesus after that because he'd stolen my birthday.

In first grade my friend had on a sweatshirt that had the "guess" logo on it. I had no idea what her shirt said, so I asked her, and her reply was "guess." As you can imagine, I kept asking and was frusterated when she kept telling me to guess. It took me awhile to figure out that the shirt actually said guess on it, and she had told me right away.

When I was little I thought my parents hated my older sister because her name is very weird. Her name is Zaidee so I told her that she had to do something really bad to have mom name you that. I was such a brat she and my oldest sister locked me in a closet and told me my first and middle name Kyle and Ryan are boys name because they wanted a boy and got me a girl. I think my parents want their kids made fun of.
I was born in September 1984 and my younger sister was born in August 1986. Well anyways, when I was little I used to believe that because I was born first that my birthday was just automatically first. I remember getting so mad because she got presents and a party before I did.

Back when I was in preschool we had a man called "Bob the Clown" come to "entertain" us one day. Well, the man was cynical and probably a psycho. He would pick kids to come up and would be mean to them and mess with them. The adults were all fine with this. Finally he called me up. He picked me up and spun me around. Eventually he put me down but when he picked me up I believed he was gonna put me in his massive pants and take me home to eat me. I still hate clowns. <(@_@)>

I used to think that your 'golden birthday' was when you were as old as your parents. After a while it dawned on me that this would be physically impossible.

Until about 1 minute ago I thought that some person named Anon had a very big family and a very good memory. Just now I realised its short for anonamous.
I used to think that the age 8 was only a girl age, I thought boy's couldn't turn 8, they skipped it. And believe me when I got in a huge fight with a boy at school when he told me he was 8!

When I was young(I don't remember exactly how young) I asked my sister, who was two years older than me, why some people were so fat. After pondering my question she gave me several scenarios.
The one that made the most sense was that apparently, obese people were used for storage. They would carry around food and various office supplies in their guts and walk around office buildings giving them out.
What really stuck with me though, was the explaination that they had a disease she referred to as 'spam.' She told me that these people were addicted to spam and I had to be very careful around them. Knowing that I had(and still have) a horrible fear of vomit, she described how these people would get sick at any moment, anywhere. To this day, I avoid standing infront of fat people.

My parents never liked to celebrated their own birthdays and I assumed that only children's birthday parties had candies and cake. So I assumed that grown-ups didn't grow up anymore because they didn't eat sweets on their birthdays while kids ate cakes and everything and grew taller/bigger overnight.

When I was much younger and first came across the word anonymous, I misread it as annoyamouse and spent days wondering whose mice they'd been annoying.

when i was little, i hated my red hair and freckles, so i thought that if i dyed my hair, my freckles would go away, because you never saw people with brown hair with lots of freckles

All my life, when reading things like this site where people sign "Anon.", I thought Anon was an actual person's first name. I only realized that it wasn't when reading this site and figuring that one person couldn't possibly have had that many strange childhood beliefs. We won't mention how old I am. ;p

When I was little, one of my favorite movies was the Disney version of Pinnochio...so I grew up believing that if I told lies, my nose would grow. My mom was always able to tell when I was lying because whenever I'd lie to her, I'd touch my nose to try & see whether or not it was growing!

One Christmas, I wanted a certain doll more than anything else in the world. Every day I would tell my parents about it, or I would point it out in the store. After kindergarten one day, I came home to find a bunch of toys, including the doll, but they were all marked "ED." I cried in my room because the things I wanted were all going to some girl named Ed who I'd never even met before. I never told my mom because I wanted to be good, and Christmas morning I finally opened my presents. There were the doll and all of the other presents. My mom, amused at my surprise, proceeded to explain to me what initials were.
