I was born on the fourth of July, and naturally I loved seeing the fireworks every year. From the time I could talk until I was about six, I believed that the fireworks were all for me. People from all over the place would come to celebrate my birthday! My father told me this, and soon I realized that it was America's birthday, too. But I haven't missed a fireworks show yet, and I'm still my mom's firecracker baby!*

I used to believe…

My mom used to tell me that when I lied a black line would show up on my tongue. I checked in the mirror and told her I didn't see anything and she said that only adults could see it. I think I was 5 or something. I beleived it for about a year.

When I was about 14 at school me & my mate convinced this other kid that 'masturbation' meant 'mowing the lawn'. He wasn't quite convinced, so we told him to ask the deputy headmaster, not believing he'd actually do it. Next time we saw him he'd been given detention.

I used to eat FUN FEAST TV dinners alot when I was little. They were little frozen dinners that came with stupid prizes like crossword puzzles and light switch plate stickers. I once had one for dinner and I got a loony toons light switch plate sticker that had Wil E. Coyote lighting a bomb on it. Being a clever 9 year old, I brought my 4 year old sister into the room where I covered the lightswitch and told her if I flicked the switch the whole world would blow up. She proceeded to hit me and say she'd tell on me if I blew up the world. I told her she'd be dead and she yelled at me more. Then I threw the switch and started making explosion noises with my mouth and she began to scream and cry and kick the floor. While she was in hysterics I told her I was kidding. The funniest part was I did it several times after this and always achieved the same effect. Thank God for lightswitch plate stickers!

When I was about 4, and my sister was around 3, we were discussing christmas. It must have been pretty close, because we were getting very excited and discussing how many days were left. My mother heard us talking and said off-handedly that she hoped it didn't get skipped this year. We naturally asked what she meant, and she said, "Didn't you ever notice how sometimes when you wake up after going to bed on Wednesday, you wake up and it's Friday? Sometimes days just don't happen, and you can't get them back. It's really a shame when it happens on Christmas or someone's birthday." Well this was a revelation to us both (needless to say) and we anxiously held our breaths until Christmas was safely past. My mother forgot to tell us she had been kidding, and for several birthdays, Christmases, Halloweens, etc, the two of us worried if it would happen this time. It never did, and we eventually forgot the incident, only to remember it again and know it was all a joke at our expense.

Once, WAAAAAAAAAY back when I was little, I was at this site where people submitted their childhood beliefs, and I came to the conclusion that some one named Anon had some serious issues.

My parents have an old family friend named Laurette. When I was a tyke, I always got her name mixed up and called her "Roulette". It took me years to get it right. One day, while joking about my old habit, she thanked me for, "Comparing me to a gambling table!"

My birthday and Paul McCartney's birthday are both on June 18th. For a while I thought he was talking about me when he sang "It's my birthday too, yeah". I felt very special.

I used to believe…

When I was about six years old I took a One-a-Day vitamin from my grandmother's medicine cabinet believing that I would grow large muscles and become extremely healthy. The entire day I kept going into the bathroom to look in the mirror to see how much my muscles had grown. I believed this would happen because of the commercial One-a-Day had on TV.

When I was younger around 8, I went fishing with my dad and his friends. His friend would cast my line, hold my pole for awhile, and then walk back to his. Soon I had a bite. I was so excited, and bragged that I was a good fisherwoman. I'm 26 now, and I just found out last year that the friend was hooking the fish for me, and letting me believe I caught it. I was crushed!

My younger sister used to believe that all girls were called Sarah and that we were weird because we weren't called that!

I used to believe that if I dressed up like one of the characters in a movie or television show, that I could be that person. This didn't work with animals... for example, if I dressed up like Cinderella I'd be Cinderella, but if I dressed like a cat I'd just be me in a cat suit.

She convinced us that she had completed this practically impossible test when she was 5, and now we had to do it, it took weeks and we still never manged to hop over a wall on our bikes or stand on the sadle but were convinced she had!
