My Uncle told me that if I put my right shoe on first the other would always be left. I took that literally and always put my right shoe on first. When I got older and realized the joke; I could not break this habit, no matter how hard I tried. As an adult I tried for quite some time and did succeed in being able to put either shoe on first.

When I was little, I really liked the way mustaches and beards looked and planned to grow my own someday. I changed my mind after discovering that facial hair on women is not deemed desirable in the western world.

I used to believe…

My middle name is the same as my father's first name. I assumed that this applied to everyone. When my friend Alan told me he didn't have a middle name I told him it would be the same as his dad's first name. Alan therefore believed he had the middle name Michael for many years.

I was born at exactly 9 o'clock at night, the time "dallas" used to come on tv (at least I think it was dallas). On my 5th birthday, I put on a pair of fuzzy slippers and stood in front of the TV. Dallas came on, but nothing happened and I started to cry. I thought that you only grew on the day and at the time you were born, so when I didn't feel my feet grow in the fuzzy slippers I thought I didn't grow that year. My mother just laughed and said "I TOLD you you need to drink your milk!"

I used to believe that my apperence was picked by my dad making a plastic mould of a face and putting it in a zapping machine to create my appearence!

When I was little, I had this really nasty babysitter. She told be that if I lied the world would explode in fire and brimstone. Not that I knew what brimstone was. But it got me to tell the gospel truth to anybody who asked for about a week, then I forgot.

I used to believe…

There was a little girl in my kindergarten class named Candy Nye. When I heard people sing "for he's a jolly good fellow" I thought they were singing about her. ("which nobody CAN DENY")

I used to get mad at some people who went to my church because they named their son Brad and my brother's name was Brad as well. Since my brother was older, I thought it was rude of them to use his name, because he had it first. I was truly convinced everyone in the world had a unique first name and that this was some kind of law.

I knew that boys who were named after their fathers were called "Junior". Therefore, I figured the name "Minnie" was for girls who were named after their mothers. (mini)

I believed that there was an actual number inside you, somewhere near your stomach, that would change on your birthday. I swear I could feel it "changing" when I woke up on my birthday.

When my daughter was three, I packed her clothes that were to small in a box in the basement. She found them and asked why they were in the box.I told her that they were to small and that I was giving them to goodwill. She started to cry and said "but goodwills a boy" I never laughed so hard in my life.

My cousin is a year older than me. My birthday is on January 16th, hers is January 24th. When I was little I used to think that because my birthday was before hers, that somehow that I was older than her. No matter how my mother explained, for years I believed I was older.

I used to believe…

As a child I wondered why my name was Dean, and how my parents (and I) knew it was Dean, and suspected that there might have been a great mixup and my real name was something else entirely.
This was long before I started getting teased for an uncommon name.

I was born on Halloween, and up until I was eight or so, I thougt the whole holiday was just a celebration of my birthday.

Up until I found this site, I also used to think that I was the only vain little kid who ever thought something like this too. I feel much better now. :P
