I used to think I loved the smell of make up, because when mum went out for the night wearing lip stick and foundation, she always smelled so nice! It wasn't till I was 13, and sniffing lipsticks in a pharmacy, that I realised this wasn't the case. That same day I discovered perfume.

I found out at early that you couldn't always believe what your friends told you. When I was small, a friend of mine once told me that if you were bad or told a lie, then God put a big black mark up in the sky for everyone to see. For days, I went around afraid to look up.

I used to believe Anon was a very silly Egyptian boy or girl whose parents had great fun making things up till I realised it was short for "Anonymous"

I had my birthday party at an aquarium when I was 5. While we were eating our lunch, a worker came along with someone dressed up as the mascot "Sammy the Seal". She asked me when my birthday was and surprise surprise, that was Sammy's too! Obviously, this was an out and out lie, but being 5 and terrified, I just accepted it.

I never thought about questioning it until I was 15. Why??

When I was around seven years old, the local tough guy kid took an extreme dislike to me. I was doing my best to avoid meeting him on neighbourhood streets, for fear of being beaten up. At around that time, I read a book about a kid in a similar situation. The author wrote: "I held my breath and hoped that he didn't recognize me." For a long time afterward, I believed that holding your breath changed your appearance.

When I was 4 I believed that My birthday was like any other holliday, meaning that I believed everyone celebrated it. I had a birthday party, and when guests arrived, and they wished me "Happy Birthday", I would say "Happy Birthday to you too!"

not my belief, but a kid back in middle school (around 1985) who was a bit gullible. Often times when we saw him coming up to our table, we would act as if we were in the middle of a conversation about the new Star Trek 6 movie that just came out and how amazed we were are some of the changes in the characters (don't remember them now). Of coarse there was no such movie. But we had him conviced that he would have to go see it.

As a kid, I used to think clowns were a race of people. Growing up in Texas, we went to rodeos every summer. That is the only place I saw lots of clowns. I couldn't figure them out and I was always thankful I wasn't born a clown.

Okay, maybe I was a big liar as a kid, but I once told a girl on the playground that when I was born, I got to choose who would be my father...the man who's my dad OR Michael Jackson (Thriller had just come out). In light of recent events, I think I made a good choice!

From quite an early age I was told by my Grandmother and Mother that the Devil lived behind any mirror and that if I looked at myself he would come out and get me. I think it was an attempt to stop me from becoming vain. It worked! To this day I still hate looking at my reflection and avoid it if I can - and I will be 61 in May!
