When I was about eight years old, myself, my parents and my twin brother were in the car on the way to some family outing or other. We drove past a huge mormon church and I asked my mother what it was. She told me that is was a mormon church and my idiotic, eight year old mind equated mormons with moomins. Until I was twelve I thought mormon churches were places where big, white marshmellowy creatures congregated.

When I was younger I thought that red and black were the colors of the devil. I was 'safe' from the devil as long as I kept my red and black markers and crayons seperated. My parents went to Texas Tech tho-- where their colors are red and black--and oddly enough I was never scared or worried about the devil when I was at a Tech game or wearing one of the shirts :)
I used to believe that I had the power to make God unhappy not only by what I did but what I was. In order not to bring too much attention on myself , I figured out I wouldn't bring his wrath(God was a He) on me if I was very good. Being very good would keep him in a good mood.

When I was little, I used to believe that whatever someone believed is what would happen to them after they died. Ex: If they believed in heaven and were a good person, then they'd go to heaven. If they believed in reincarnation, they would be reincarnated. If they didn't believe in any afterlife, than nothing would happen.
Then, I grew up and people tried to convince me that one belief was correct above all others and that everyone who didn't believe like me would go to hell.

Up until I was 6 years old, my family lived in Easton, Pennsylvania, which is right next to a little city called Bethlehem. I went to preschool at a church, and after all of the Jesus stories I heard, not once did an adult ever make sure we understood that the Bethlehem in these stories is not the same as the one down the road. So I went for a great period of my early childhood believing that I was walking on the same ground as Jesus did 2000 years ago.
i used to believe that when humans died they would be able to change into any animal they want..you know just die and live on as something else. i didn't know there was a such thing as 'god' until my friend took me to church...i think my child-hood belief is ok no one told me that it was natural.

When I was around age 7 I thought that heaven was this little shack that had only a kitchen in it and an old lady making cookies for a group of kids. and out side the shack it had thorn bushes growing around the out side and that the ground was made of clouds.

When I was 4 I told my mom I didn't want to be a Christian because when my Sunday school teacher said Jesus would be in your heart, I thought he would literally be inside of me, so I would be all lumpy. I didn't want to be lumpy. Today I am a Christian.

Before I was able to read well I thought pedestrian crossing signs said presbatarian crossing.
I used to believe that Jesus was Catholic and Portuguese. I was probably 12 when my Orthodox Jewish neighbors explained to me that he was neither Catholic or Portuguese. I ran home crying to my mom telling her what the neighbors next door were telling me and she sat me down and explained to me that this was the truth.

For 2 years we thought my now 7-year-old niece was afraid rp be baptized because she'd been told a priest would pour water on her head. Today we learned the real reason. She thought that being baptized meant you died. My father-in-law told her being baptized meant you got to go to heaven- she thought he meant immediately.
