Religion confused me, I used to wonder why a hill would HAVE a wall round it (hymn - there is a green hill far away without a city wall) and why if religion was touting God as a good thing, you would sing about not wanting him (the lord is my shepherd I shall not want).

A friend of mine said he thought the song lyrics "he's got the whole world in his hands" was "he's got the whole world in his pants" oops!

I live in Brazil, and speak portuguese. In portuguese, as in some other languages, the word 'heaven' is the same word of 'sky'( its the word 'Cu'). So, when I was about 6 or 7, I used to watch out to never be naughty especially when I was outside, cos it would be easier for God to see me and get angry with me, as I had no ceiling above my head.

My Pop is a preacher. When I was a kid, he preached at the First Baptist Church in Springlake. Imagine my surprise when I saw a First Baptist Church in a totally different town! I had thought that Pop's church was THE FIRST Baptist chuch ever built!

In the consecration during the catholic mass, the priest held up a host to the sound of bells, in front of a gold-plated tabernacle. A short time later, He would hold up a golden cup, again to the sound of bells. later, hosts were distributed to those taking communion from what appeared to be the same cup. I was convinced that God would "count the house" and take parts of the original host, transfer them into the cup so everyone who wanted to could get a host at communion. The bells were the sound of the transfer.

When I was a little girl, I use to sneak in my mom's room at night, because I was so terrified that the devil and his helpers were going to come carry me out with pitch forks.

my mother used to take me to church every sunday. just before all of us kids went to sunday school, we would sing the "gloria patri." i think this is in all presbyterian churches, but i'm not sure. the line goes something like "glory be to the father..."

up until i was maybe 15, i sang "guinea pig to the father..." nobody ever bothered to show me the words, and i sang it loud and proud every sunday.

I used to think that when people were immersed in the baptistry at church, the floor under the water would open up and these big metal clamps would grab them and pull them below the floor. Simultaneously, a robot that looked exactly like them would pop up from under the water. Then the robot would take their place in life, but nobody except the pastor knew about this.

My Grandfather was the pastor of our church and because he was always at the front of the church and praying, I though for a short while, that he was God.

As an 7 year old Irish Catholic I was used to hearing the 'Hail Mary' But the line "blessed are thou amongst women" sounded like "blessed are thou, a Monk Swimming". At the age of 10 I was taken to a monastry and encouraged to ask questions. My question was "where is the swimming pool" ! I was the talk of the school.

When my sister was little she thought the song 'Who Built the Ark? Noah...Noah' actually went 'Who built the Ark? Noone noone'. She may have a point...

I am a stout athiest, but the belief stemmed from a rather childish beginning. When I was young I used to be looked after by a christian family sometimes, they had a painting of jesus on the wall with long hair. I thought anybody with long hair was a girl, and refused to worship a girl, I then concluded that god didn't exist.

I used to think that the sky was blue because God, a handsome, toga wearing, blonde man in his 20's, would get all the animals in the forest to stand one by one on each others' shoulders and hold up a piece of blue construction paper. Obviously, night was black construction paper.
