I did strongly believe that the road I walked on must have also been walked on by Jesus when he was on earth and going round on his travels. And I even tried to walk in such a way that I thread exactly on his footsteps. I just did not understand at a young age that something that was in place in the here and now - like that road - was not there 2000 years ago.

I was rasied Catholic and attended catholic grade school. We were told to pray for something really important and we would receive it through Jesus. Well I started to pray for this really cute outfit I saw in a window store. I prayed for that outfit to 'appear' on my bed for weeks. Needless to say, the outfit did not 'appear'. But a year later I received an outfit almost exactly like the one I prayed for, as a gift. How silly of me to think Jesus would give me something so material as a outfit. But, because of the way I prayed I do beleive He made it possible for me to receive it.

When I was little during a discussion about god with my mother she told me that "god is everywhere"

I became extremely concerned and asked her, "so if I step on the grass do I hurt god?"

I remember growing up in church when I was a small child. When the minister would would recite psalms and the congregation would respond, I never realized everyone was reading out of a book because I was too small to see. So, I just assumed everyone around me was an alien.

I was a really skeptical kid so I never really believed in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but I also thought that the stories in church were silly and made up. I remember being embarrassed when I was about 10 and talking to my parents to find that they really do believe in God even after they admitted there was no Santa Claus. I thought they were just really gullible. No wonder I'm an atheist.

I found out pretty early that there was no such thing as santa or the tooth fairy so I thought that God was just another made up story to make me behave.

This didn't go over too well since my grandpa's a preacher.

when i was young i would picture God as a young man with a purple jumper with a white capital letter G on the front that stood for God, and he had a dark brown bowel cut. i dont know where that image came from though.

Growing up my mom would take me to church every sunday. Every sunday it was a battle. I was terriffied of church. One day as my mom was fighting to get me into the car she asked why i didn't want to go to church so badly (i had started crying), i told her i was afraid of the bells because I thought they were made by ghosts.

I remember a sermon in which the minister said: "When I was a little boy, sometimes I would wake up and find the world so quiet and still, I thought that maybe the Second Coming of Christ had been and gone, and left me behind. So I would sneak into my parents' room, and see if they were still there. If they were, I knew it was all right. I never looked into my sisters' room, because I thought it would be touch and go with them."
As I said to him after church, "You must have had a terrible conscience."

I was brought up Catholic and attended Catechism when I was very young. Anyway, when I was about six or seven years old our teacher told us that we always had to be good because God was EVERYWHERE watching us. She said it in that ominous tone of voice that grown-ups use when they're trying to drive a point home.
This terrified me. I had visions of God watching me go to the bathroom, getting dressed, taking a shower, etc. I decided I was going to have to start hiding from him so I started changing my clothes in my closet. One day my mom caught me and asked me what I was doing and when I explained to her what I was told she told me, "God saw you naked when you were first born, He doesn't care. Now come out of there and get dressed." After that, I didn't have a problem. Of course, now I'm a grown up and I have since stopped believing in the Catholic Church and I'm on the fence about God.

When I was a kid, I used to believe that "Moron" was a religion, but I believed it was a religion for bad people because the characters in MAD Magazine always used it in a negative way. Later I found out that the religious denomination was called "Mormon", because I asked my friend's mom if she had a lot of kids because they were "Morons". Fortunately she let me stay.

I thought that God's name was Howard. It said so in the Lord's Prayer "Our Father, who art in heaven, Howard be thy name". It all made sense after that. Jesus H. Christ stood for Howard

When I was five, I thought that if I held a valentine I had made for my mother out the car window letting it flutter in the wind, prayed very hard, and let it go, it would come back to me. It didn't.

I used to ask my mother how God could hear everybody's prayers, since we were all praying at the same time. She said, "Oh, God is everywhere." That was when I started thinking of God as being grossly obese.

I grew up in the south where a lot of churches used grapejuice instead of wine at communion. They used to pass the "wine" and bread (little cubes of white bread) down the aisle and only grownups were allowed to have any. I thought that these were "refreshments" and I didn't think it was fair that the kids couldn't have some too.
