I used to believe (and sometimes still do !) that God was the rays that would peek out behind the clouds -- I think I got this idea from seeing some childrens' Bibles, and where the illustrations inside would show those "rays" beaming down on someone (like Mary, John the Baptist, etc.)

I believed that baby Jesus didn't have any bodily functions. I think it was an extrapolation from 'Away in a Manger' when it says 'no crying he makes' ... somehow he didn't do anything else either.

When I was 5-ish, whenever my parents mentioned "God" for some reason, in my mind, I always pictured God as the Statue of Liberty.

When I was little, I thought that the story said that Jesus went around bragging that he was the son of god. you know, shoving it in peoples faces. Im really ashamed of it now, but back then i thought he got what he deserved. SORRY
I used to believe that there was an order to things: that there was the Earth, which was surrounded by galaxy, and surrounding the galaxy was Heaven, I imagined that there was a velvet rope (like the ones to direct ticket lines at movie theaters) cutting off the galaxy from Heaven, and that god stood at the only opening letting people in.

When I was four, our family had a young man from the church stay with us for a while. His name was Davy, and he used to make microwave popcorn for us.
One morning in Sunday School, our teacher was going over the creation story. "Who made the sky?" "God did!" "Who made the birds?" "God did!" Living in rural Kansas, she named things familiar to all of us. When she asked, "Who made the popcorn?" I shouted, "Davy does!"

Of course our church had an organ. I thought the harder you pressed the keys, the louder it played. The easier you pressed the keys, the softer it played. To give it that warbling effect, I thought the organ player was wiggling his/her fingers on the keys.

I used to think an alternative to praying to God, you could go outside and shout as loud as you can toward the sky so He can hear you.

In my hometown, we had one Jewish temple. I was riding my bike around town one day when a dog started chasing me. I rode home as fast as I could and told my dad about it. He asked me where the dog was, and I told him it was by the Sherriff's station (which was over 2 miles away). I later learned that just because there's a big star on the front of a building doesn't make it a police station.

I used to believe that Jehovah's Witnesses were 'Hovis Witnesses' who would force me to eat the hated Hovis brown bread.
I went to a small Christian school and someone told me Jesus was the sun and the light. I would be outside playing or just sitting around eating lunch and every now and then would look up at the sun and think "Wow, that's Jesus. He is bright and is changing colors right now." I didn't realize until years later than they meant the Son of God.
i used to believe that your life was a dream and when you died you would wake up as a baby and start your life again as the same person but different things would happen. for example: if you was poor then when you woke up you would become rich.
I remember hearing in church that we are all sinners and Jesus had to die to save us. I felt so bad and wracked my 7 yr old brain trying to remember what I had done that was so bad it killed Jesus.

My husband used to believe that Joy to the World contained the lyrics 'let Earth receive her keys" instead of "let Earth receive her King"

When i was younger, my father told me that i cant see God, but he lived in my heart. So for almost 10 years afterwords, whenever someone said the word "God", i would picture this angry robot with a pitchfork in my "heart" which looked vaguely like a red cave. to this day, i dont know where i got any of that from. i was kinda weird.

A friend of mine spent a lot of time in church as a child. The hymn lyrics were displayed with an over-head projector. As the pages were swapped, a huge hand appeared mid-air. Logically, she assumed this was the hand of God.

I used to think the words to "Silent Night Holy Night" at the end, were "Christ the Savior is bored." It's "Christ the Savor is born."

When I was about six, my father showed me a picture of Jesus and told me, "This is Jesus, you are suppossed to love him", and I thought to myself, "But, he's not even attractive."
