I used to believe…

When I was not yet tall enough to see over the people in front of me at church, I used to believe that it was God actually giving mass into a loudspeaker. When I eventually grew taller, I thought our preist was God's substitue, because he had to be at other churches on Sunday.

My Uncle Randy is a pastor. When he talked about God creating us, I would always imagine Jesus sitting in front of an art easel painting a picture of some one before they were born.

In my house we always had a large family Bible. When I was little I always belived that the Book Luke was named after Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.

I'm from Louisiana (Yeah, I know, that says alot). There is a small town nearby called Rayne. Well, until I was about ten, I believed that was where God and Jesus lived, because of the line from Church that says "He lives in "rain" with you, forever and ever".

When I was little I used to believe that the phrase "delivers us from evil" referred to God putting the entire human race into a big yellow envelope and sending us away somewhere evil couldn't reach us.

I used to believe…

When I first started going to church with my mother, I was too short to see over the seats in front of me to the altar. When the mass started, I couldn't tell where the voice was coming from! I honestly thought it was the voice of God speaking to us from the loudspeakers on the walls. I thought it was funny that God sounded a lot like Father Joyce....

When I was younger my mom told me that when you died you would go to heaven and there would be gold and jewels everywhere, so me thinking heaven was just a place in the clouds I decided that when I died(at the time I was kinda hoping I was young and not old when I died)I would just throw off a whole bunch of jewels and expensives things then jump down myself because I thought I would be alive again... I was a greedy little child

A four year old friend of mine was very proud to have learned the "our father" at church, and so she was reciting it to me. She ended it with "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us with evil."

Well, i dont know what god SHE's praying to....

when i was a kid and we went to church, the priest would always tell us to offer each other a sign of peace. (shake hands and say "peace"). but i always used to say, "Peas!" instead of "Peace." OOps

I remember watching my sister tell my mother (very seriously!) after coming home from our Christian daycare, "Mommy, I am not your child. I am God's child." She was apparently very angry that our parents had never told her she had been adopted from God...

I used to believe that God and Father Christmas were one and the same. When I was about 5, my siblings broke it to me that Father Christmas wasn't real. I think mum was farly shocked when I refused to go to church because God didn't exist.

That one took a while to clear up.

that I could throw my problems up in the sky and God would reach down and catch them.

I used to think that whenever you saw those "sunbeams"..those breaks between the cloud when you see the actual beam go all the way down to the earth, I used to think those were the angels pathways, and if u stood in them long enough and believed--like when they came in through the window...u could try to get 'beamed up'-to heaven.

I used to believe…

once me and my friend were digging a hole, and we were convinced that if we dug far enough, we would reach hell. Although we rather hoped we'd just run into bugs bunny instead.

I use to believe that even God could see me naked, so I use to hide in my closet, get dressed and then either get ready for bed, school or hanging out with my friends. I later realized that God lives in my heart and not on my body.

I used to believe…

The deadline for signing up to be an altar boy was fast approaching, and I knew my family wanted me to join. My mom found me depressed and crying the night before the deadline. She pressed me for details, and I admitted that I just wasn't sure I wanted to sign my life over to the priesthood yet. Where in the world I got the idea that becoming an altar boy meant I was a priest for life, I have no idea, but mom's reassurances never provided more comfort than on that night.

As a young Catholic child, I knew I needed to bless myself with the sign of the cross before and after my prayers. For some reason I believed the before-prayers sign of the cross got God on the line (like a telephone call) and the after-prayers one hung up the phone. I'd lie in bed wondering if God was still "on the line." I thought that until I was 17!

When I was a kid, my brother and I bickered all the time. Anyway, when I was about 5 or 6, I was listening to a preacher on the radio who was talking about how Jesus had died for our sins. I asked my brother how Jesus died and he told me that Jesus had died in a car wreck. I believed that for a couple of years.

I went to a catholic primary school for we had to make a 'sign of the cross' before prayer (in the name of the father, and of his son, and of the holy spirit amen). However I joined nursery later than everyone and missed the teaching of this, so just had to pick it up as i went along.
I was saying 'For the name of my Farmer, and of his gun, and that Holy Spit - Amen' for 5 years!
