I always heard the phrase "honor roll" as "on a roll". It made sense to me that if a person had mostly B's they would get a certificate saying "B On a Roll" like, "hey you're getting a lot of b's you're on a roll".
When my neighbor got a D on his report card, I asked him if there was a D "On a roll" and he punched me. Lessons learned the hard way.

when i was little the first time we had a fire drill, i ran to my cubby and took everything out because i thought the school was actually going to burn down. the teacher told me to leave the stuff but i was clinging to it so hard she had to call another teacher in to pry it out of my hands

In elementary school, there was a bathroom on the edge of the school grounds, which was seldom monitored by school officials. A rumor went around that there were these older kids (7th or 8th graders maybe, or high-schoolers) who would hang out in the bathroom with electric razors. When an unlucky child wandered in there, they would be grabbed by the "Shavers," who would proceed to shave off all your hair! We would tell each other "don't go in there, the Shavers will get you!" I wonder now if it started as a warning to some kid not to wander alone into unmonitored closed spaces. At that age most of us had no knowledge of sexual predation.

One of the teacher's aides when I was in kindergarten told me that the principal could see everything we were doing, so we had better be good. I thought he was watching us through a camara in the ceiling, and that he sat around all day in a room with security screens all around like you see on TV. Once I waved at the ceiling, because I wanted to say 'hi'.

I used to wonder why you would go to high school for two years as a freshman and sophomore, then have to go to junior high school when you were a junior, then back to regular high school when you were a senior.

Being in a rural school district and never having actually seen the school building, as a child, I believed that the school was actually the bus that came to pick my older sister up. When I started kindergarten, I was surprised when I didn't see desks and chairs on the bus that first day!

In kindergarten, I thought the teacher was my mom. I wondered how she got to school before me without taking the bus.

When I started kindergarten our teacher told us that they were going to have a fire drill in the room next to ours and that we would soon have a fire drill too. I believed that that they must be doing some kind of work on the walls using a drill that spit out fire so they all had to get out of the room when they used it. I wondered how it worked.

In grade school, I thought "Tardy" meat "Tidy." No matter how hard I scrubbed and primped, my report card never said I was "Times Tardy" more than 2 or 3 times. After I learned the right meaning, I decided not to waste anymore time on being neat!

At school we had ring binder rulers, and me and my friends thought that it said ring blinder ruler. We spent hours putting rings in the holes of the ruler and trying to make ourselves go blind by looking through the ruler

During class at school I always used to think that we were all sitting up to our waists in water. Whenever i dropped my pencil or anything i would have to hold my breath before i bent down to retrieve it so that I wouldn't drown.

When I was really young, my older brother told me it was illegal to write on the left side of the margin on paper...and so in grade one, when my teacher told us to number our paper by putting numbers in the left margin, I yelled out to the class, "No, don't do it! You'll get arrested!"
Of course, they all laughed at me...but I still believed it.
