I used to believe that if I could get a huge diamond which I could place on top of a thick flashlight, I could create one of those cool, powerful lasers they showed all the time in cartoons.

I used to believe an answering machine was a device that answered ANY questions you asked it, through some kind of magic.

I used to think that when you dialed a telephone number with letters in it, that the phone actually KNEW which letters you were dialing. I would always ask my dad "How does the phone know which letter you want to dial when there are three letters on each number?"

I used to believe the speakers recorded my voice, not a built in microphone. I tried this on every speaker I owned and thought that I only had luck with some of them.

My son's little friend would not believe that ice cubes were simply frozen water. He was sure there was some secret formula.

— kool-aid making Momscience : chemistry

Once I watched Saved By The Bell on tv and Screech and Kelly were lab partners. (keep in mind, I was about five when this was on.) Well, Screech poured some liquid into a test tube and the mixture began to fizz over and eventually explode all over them. Due to this, I believed that mixing any two liquids would cause an explosion. Therefore, I was terrified to pee in the toilet so I peed in a bin liner for about a week until my sister discovered it in my closet. I was also convinced I would die when my mum mixed the Kool- Aid with water to thin it.

As far as I can remember, my Dad always worked on computers. And when I was like 5 or so, my father would let my sister and I play "Hangman" on his CPC black and green screen computer. But there was a problem: whenever the hangman died, I would freak out and leave the room.
Knowing this, it was obvious for me that the hangman lived in the computer, and would try to kill me if he has a chance. My mom locked me in my parents room once, because I had done something bad probably, and that's where the computer was. I went mental, yelling my guts out, banging the door and checking over my shoulder every to seconds it the computer made a move yet!

Once when I was playing with a toy telephone, my grandma said, "Is the line busy?". But I thought she said "Is the lion busy?"! For the longest time, I thought that lions were telephone operators.

I used to think that if you want to write programs in machine code, you need two monitors for your computer: The ordinary one and a machine code monitor.

When I was a kid, I had two computers in my home, an Amiga 500 which uses the common 3 ½ inch floppy disks and a Commodore Colt that takes the older 5 ¼ inch floppy disks. Neither of my two computers back then had hard disk drives so I jumped to the conclusion that the 3 ½ inch disks of the Amiga were all hard disks because they had a much harder surface and were less flexible than the 5 ¼ inch disks. I had over one hundred games for the Amiga and I told some of the teachers at my school that I had a computer with over one hundred hard disks and they were wondering how the heck my family could afford so many hard disks and how I could fit all of the hard disks into my computer. I believed that all 3 ½ inch floppy disks were hard disks until I was 14, when my Info Tech teach set me straight by getting my to write one hundred lines stating that 3 ½ inch disks are floppy disks.

When I first learned how a helicopter's rotor gives the helicopter lift that raises it off the ground and keeps it suspended in the air, I decided that in buildings that had ceiling fans, the fans were part of what was holding the ceiling up, on a similar principle.

When I was little I used to always think the way to send a letter was to put the letter through the little tiny holes you talk into when your on the phone so when your talking to that person they'll get the letter through thier holes.lol. later in life i figured that wasnt true when i asked what a mail box was for

When I was little, I used to think that when people were on the phone, they were only pretending to be talking to someone on the other line and the phone only worked when I would use it.

My brother convinced me that the world spinned around on its axis because it was at a very perfect angle that scientists couldn't easily reproduce. He told me that if I took out the school globe and adjusted it juuuuuust right that it would start spinning! I spent hours trying to get it to spin.

When I learned that oil came from dinosaurs I thought that the dinosaurs were still alive underground and oil drills were drilling down to them, into their bodies and sucking the oil out of the poor beasties.

When I was little I knew that if you ran "C:\Con\Con" on a windows 95/98 PC it was mess up the computer. I thought that "C:\Con\Con" was some kind of magic word that would mess up or kill anything you said it to, or wrote on. I was horrified that I might absent-mindedly mumble it to myself or write it on myself. I once had a nightmare that it happened and I died. One die I was fed up with my little brother, so I wrote on his forehead "C:\Con\Con" during his nap, because I knew it was mess up his head. I still write it on things I don't like, it's a force of habit. I'm a nerd.

In kindergarten, I got my first ever phone number from one of my friends. One day I decided to call her and ask her to come over and play, and I was so excited about using the real telephone for the first time. I still don't know if I dialed wrong or if my friend just didn't actually know her number, but when the person on the other end of the line picked up and said, "East Providence Animal Shelter, how may I help you?" with a lot of barking in the background, I freaked out!

I didn't know you could get a wrong number accidentially, and I thought the animal shelter lady would think I was playing a prank or something and be angry, so I was tongue-tied and hung up on her after a couple seconds. I immediately ran to hide behind a chair in the living room and listened for police sirens for a long time. I just knew the lady knew who I was and would send someone after me. It was a long time before I dared to use the phone again!
