From the age of about eight to ten I was convinced I could make 'Black light' by combining the beams from two torches - if only I could get them lined up right. Then I'd be rich. Oh yes. Well, I'm filthy rich now but still haven't cracked battery operated darkness.

I use to beleave that if a plane was crashing you could save yourself by jumping off just before it hit the ground.
In the US, the phone company used to be known as the Bell System. And each region had its own Bell Telephone Company. Since my family lived in Tennessee, our phone company was South Central Bell. I easily convinced my sister that Taco Bell (the name of a fast food chain) was also the name of the Telephone Company in Mexico.
When I was younger, I had a firm belief that if I ever fell from a high place (i.e. a cliff, skyscraper, etc.) I could simply grab on to something during my fall, or jump off of something right before I hit the ground.
I used to think that when you put in a video, the people in it had to really quickly run and start acting it again. It got really confsing for me when I realised that several people could watch the same film at the same time. my mum used to tell me that that wasn't right, but i only believed her when I was about 7!
Once my dad told me that sometimes glass bottles in the bush start bushfires when the sun shines through them (true). I spent months shining torches on glass bottles stuffed with paper to see if this was true, no such luck.
once when i was very young i thought anything you wanted to kill or get rid of should be thrown in the fire. well lets just say big metal objects dont burn very well

I used to think that if you shone a flashlight beam onto a lightbulb long enough, it would eventually light.

I used to think that little bakers lived in the toaster who baked the bread and pushed it back up.
I once had a cheap radio and a pair of walkie-talkies, and somehow managed to convince myself that if I touched the radio aerial with the walkie-talkie aerial, I could transmit on the same frequency as the radio station, and shout over the top of the presenter's voice at everyone who was currently listening to that station. Something to do with frequencies and tuning forks at school, probably. *Sigh* If only it was that simple...
I used to believe the internet was useful until I came across this site
I used to believe that if you dropped a coin on a table and gulped in the air as it fell, that you would be swallowing 'energy' and that this would make you energetic. This is because I had seen a children's science programme on television which said something about energy being 'released' if you dropped a coin.
I used to believe, in fact I think I still do, that you can cut a pane of glass into any shape you want with a pair of kitchen scissors if you hold the glass underwater. I seem to remember trying this and it working but that may have been a dream
I spent many frustrating hours believing that if i tried hard enough I could lift myself off the ground with no means of support. I also thought if a lift was plummeting down a shaft you would be perfectly alright if you gave a little jump just before it hit the floor.
I always though little men lived in the cats eyes in the road, also in the tellie - actually in most electrical appliances
My cousin once told me that glass was made from ground up beetles, and I believed her!

I just found out that when I told my son (years ago) that windmills made the wind (they only work when it's windy!), he believed me up until now.
i used to think that if you disconnected your speakers while playing music, the noise would build up inside the wires like water at a dam, and when you plugged them back in the built up sound would all come out at once like a flood.
I remember my first science based thought was based on a survival scenario. If you are a small boat going over a waterfall then you need to crawl to the back, grab hold of the boat and just before you hit the water you jump from the boat. Thus saving yourself from a 100ft fall by making a three foot jump. Ta da.

I believed that I had invented reef knots.
