I used to believe…

When I was little, I picked up some information about things called 'sex toys'. Not knowing about sex at the time, I imagined them like a baby's or a dog's chew toy, but sex toys were for another species named 'sex'.
I learned otherwise when we were naming all the animals in preschool and I said, "I know an animal! Sex!"

I used to believe that girls were born from mothers and boys were born from fathers.

We are just two sisters: so that confirmed why we were both born from my mother.

After all, it doesn't seem such a bad idea....

When i was aroun 8 or so i heard the term "Virgin" applied to 16-17 year old female friend of the family. Naturally i asked my dad what it meant. He told me a virgin was "tease" and proceeded to elaborate further. By the end of his rant i had a very low opinion of "Virgin's." I now know that he held this particular girl in quite a bit of contempt at the time. Im sure he thought i forgot all about it but when a new neighbor moved in next door (about 30 years old with 2 children) i was very concerned and thougfht it neccesary to ask her if she was a virgin... I remember to this day her surpsrise when i asked that question (we had just met). After her initial shock she proceeded to ask me what i thought a virgin was. I remmebr explaining it to her... Funny her and my dad never quite got a long the whole time we lived there... :)

My friends son thought tampons were for mufflers for women so that they wouldn't fart.

For a long time, I thought boys didnt get penises until they were 10 years old. I thought before that, the body had kind of sucked the penises inside, to incubate them until they were ready to fall out. (This was because I had overheard my mother talking about a boy's testicles "dropping" - because he'd hit puberty, but he was 10 at the time, so it was early.)

As for me, I thought I would turn into a boy, so I was waiting for mine to "drop" too, thinking that my vagina was just the wrinkle, where my penis was sucked in.

I used to think that parents chose the gender of their child when 'it' was born. They were all born with penises, and if they wanted it to be a girl, they could simply push the penis in and it would leave the hole... and when it grew, the breasts puffed out because of more space being taken up inside.

When I was in elementary school, and we were somewhat learning about sex, I became perplexed because I didn't know what would happen if a man peed while having sex. I asked all my friends and we came to the conclusion that a "pee baby" would be produced. Our drawings revealed that a pee baby resembled a normal baby, only made out of water balloons filled with pee.

I used to think that a turkey baster was for giving birth. I don't know why I did, but I did. So needless to say I was horrifed when a family friend gave my mum a turkey baster for her birthday (at the end of October).

I used to believe…

One day when I was about 4 I walked into a room where my mom was breast feeding my new born brother and my moms friend was with her. I had the belief that a girl could choose what she wanted to have in her breasts. I had thought about the possiblities and as i entered the room and said proudly "when I get older I am going to have big boobs and they will have chocolate milk in them!!"

my mom and her friend immediately started laughing and I was completely embarrassed and later my mom explained things to me.

When I was little I watched Doc Hollywood with my mom and I was freaked when the lady gave birth in the car. I told my mom that I don't want to go through that, and that I would just go to people who just gave birth and ask if they wanted to keep their babies. I believed they would actually give them to me too.

I used to believe…

My friend got caught masturbating by his mum when he was 11. She told him that if he did it again, his penis would fall off in the night. He isn't very bright and, unsurprisingly, he believed her. It took me almost six weeks to convince him otherwise and i'll never let him live it down!

When I was very young I used to think 'human beings' were 'human beans'. (This goes back long before I could read so I was judging by the sound of what people were saying.) So this meant I thought that people grew from the ground like a runner bean.

I used to believe girls had a penis too, it just that theirs were farther back near their butt which is why girls had to sit down to pee and poo.

When I was in kindergarten, Magic Johnson had come out saying he had AIDS. I asked my mom how one got AIDS and she told me it was from sleeping with someone of the same sex. I started to freak out because I had spent the night with my girl-friend the other night at a slumber party. I was convinced I had AIDS.
