I used to believe…
As a young child (about 4 or younger) I believed that women got pregnant from overeating. I knew that eating too much made you fat, and I knew that pregnant women were fat, and I assumed that one led to the other. Which was why women were always trying to watch their weight- they were trying to keep the baby away!
I overheard my grandmother (77yo) talking with my aunt (58yo) about how she's had a hard lump at the top(front) of her 'min' (how she referrs to her genitals) and that she's spent years trying to scrub it off. My aunt explained to her that it's her clitoris. My Nan then said that she's never heard of one of those..... It's not just kids who can be naive!
I used to think that babies came out of your mum's belly button - I used to imagine the belly button opening up and a baby jumping out! Eventually I realised that other parts existed for that...hehe

I also used to think that Mommies didn't have periods. I thought it went away once you had a baby.

This is kind of a personal one, but up until about five years ago I used to believe that cramps and PMS and things were imaginary. I thought girls talked themselves into it, or used it all as an excuse to get away with all sorts of crap a man could never do.
I'm 23 and female; it just took me a while to grow up. I was very, very wrong.

when my son was about five years old and who used to suffer from asthma, was once telling our very nosey neighbour 'when mummy goes in the bedroom with daddy, she always gets an asthma attack, because I can hear her going "ooh ahh oh yeah ahh hu huh hoh"
I was too embarrassed to show my face for days afterwards I can tell you, kids eh
I used to think that if you wished hard enough you'd become pregnant (thats what my mum told me!). I also thought you had to rub stomachs with someone to get pregnant

I used to think that all you had to do to get pregnant was kiss a person of the opposite sex. I stayed away from all the boys I could.
I used to believe…
when i was really little, i used to live next to some people who had 5 kids, 4 boys and 1 girl. i thought that the sex of the baby was determined by whoever did the most work when the parents were having sex. later i found out that it had to do with chromosomes. *hehe*
i used to think babies came out of the side of the moms thigh
I used to believe…
One day my mom had her period (I was about 5) and didn't want to flush and wake us up. Well, I went to use the toilet and started screaming. I thought someone was dying, I had never seen that much blood before. Needless to say (we lived in a duplex) our neighbors wern't happy at 2:00 in the morning.

I used to believe the doctor got to decide if the baby was a boy or a girl. I once ask my mom if i could be a girl. She said no cuz God made me a boy.

When i was young, i used to think farmers make love by the women standing beside a tree and the man inserting the penis through a carved hole from a woodeen tree.... but they actually make love on a wooden bamboo bed back home..

When I was 7 or 8, my next-door neighbor (who was 12 at the time, I believe) told me that when a woman loses her virginity, a bone breaks in her clit and it's extremely painful. For a while, I wondered why anyone would want to have sex if it was that painful!

Growing up, I only knew that my penis was called my "pee-er". So, that's the way I referenced it with my son (who was 4).
One day, on vacation in Florida, we went to a site to watch fireworks. They were being shot off the end of a very long pier which seemed endless while walking on it. I made mention of this saying: "Wow, this is a very big pier!" My son's response was: "Just like mine, right, dad?!"

Some moron stuck an unwrapped, still rolled condom in my lunch box in middle school. I knew what they were, theoretically, but didn't realize they came lubricated. I concluded that this one, being all slimy, was used. Along with being completely grossed out, I decided that guys must have to roll them back off like pantyhose when they were done. I didn't get straightened out on this until almost my 21st birthday. :)
