I used to believe…

This isn't my moment but it's another friends.

We were learning sex ed in about fourth grade, and the teacher was explaining about condoms. My friend misunderstood and thought the guy puts a plastic bag, like from a grocery store, on his thing! We were trying not to laugh so hard.

I thought having your period was like pee, but blood. I thought it just came out at once. I never knew it dripped. I always wondered why people were so worried about leaking while wearing pads. Couldn't they just go to the washroom and let it all out, then not have to wear the pad anymore, since their period was over? It was until i actually got it and I wondered why it was continous for the whole day, then I asked my mom if it was supposed to keep going..

SHE LAUGHED AT ME! that was so embarrassing..

I used to believe…

my neighbor and i were playing barbie dolls at her house. i only had a couple, and only one ken, so we always played with her ken dolls. my barbie and her barbie were talking because they were about to go out on "dates" with some foxy kens, and her doll asked me if i had "taken my condoms yet". i had no idea what she was talking about, so she told me that condoms were pills you had to take before you went on dates. i really didnt think much of this...

I used to believe…

When I was 10, my friend Larry explained sex to me. A man and a woman would take their clothes off and get in bed, and the man would get on top of her. Then, they'd rub their tits together.
It made sense; why else would a man have nipples?

I used to believe…

When I was little, I thought you had to sign a form to have a baby delivered. I thought that babies were really carried to the mum's by a bird, that the mum pressed her belly button when the baby was ready.

I used to believe…

When I was six I checked a book about the human body out from the library. The last chapter was on reproduction. It explained the process, but left out any concept of volition. I spent some time believing that procreation happened whenever a penis neared a vagina. I was particularly worried that it happened at night, unbeknownst to my sleeping parents, while they were lying in bed next to each other.

I used to believe…

When I was about 5, I wanted to know where babies come from. I asked my mom, who told me then, that they are formed when a man puts his penis into a woman's vagina. I then assumed a woman and a man would go into the bathroom, he would pick up his penis and put it in the vagina, and they would stand there. I wondered how long it would take, so I went back and asked. I was told however long and it could be done in bed. Now, I had no idea how that could be done, because, how can someone stand up in bed???

I used to believe…

When I was about 8, I was talking with my friends, and I actually believed this until I was about 12. Basically in order to get a woman pregnant, you would have to urinate inside of them. I thought this was horribly disgusting, and had no idea why someone would want to do this.

I used to believe that when the bride and groom kissed at the wedding, it was a special kiss and that's how the bride's body knew to become pregnant.

I used to believe…

Somehow I knew that in order to get pregnant something from the man had to get inside the woman - and I knew that they had to sleep in the same bed for it to happen.

So for the longest time I thought while the man and the woman were sleeping, whatever it was would crawl out of the man and walk across the sheets and into the woman and make her pregnant.

The thing I worried about was how did it know which way to go in the dark on the sheets and what if it crawled into the wrong person or simply got lost? Did it die? Did it hang around and wait for the next person to get in bed?

I used to believe…

When I was 5 and I'd just come out of the bath and Dad was drying me with a towel I looked down at my chest and asked him if I could have some pimple cream for my two "pimples."
He laughed (at that time I didn't understand why) and said no.
And then I said, "Oh I get it- they're itchy bites"

I used to believe…

When I was about 8 years old my friend Alice told me that all women would bleed once a month, and that this would happen to us when we were older.

I was horrified, and imagined blood coming out of all of our pores. Then I didn't believe her because I was sure that I had never seen any grown up woman I knew walking around with blood pouring out from everywhere.

I used to believe that all births were C-section and all mid-wives had the expertise to perform a C-section.
Also believed that women gave birth to boys while men gave birth to girls.(Balance in nature) Weird ??

I used to believe…

For some reason, during my first period, I thought that the bleeding would never stop; that once you "became a woman", you bled forever. I remember thinking that this wasn't a very good deal...

I used to think that the clitoral hood was the vagina (I was not actually aware of the prescence of a hole there). When I was 9, I had a yeast infection, and so I described the itching as being, "behind my vagina," so the doctors assumed I was ashamed to say, "anus" and thought I had pinworms. Itchy.
