I used to believe…

All during elementary school, I was something of a problem child and ended up in the principal's office at least twice a week. Naturally, every time that happened I would get bored and look around for something interesting to read. One time, I found a flyer aimed at the 6th grade girls about getting your period. I read it front to back and was horrified. I thought it was talking about some fatal disease that all girls get when they grew up. It gave me horrible nightmares about growing up and susequently bleeding to death.

All of the girls in my family were told that we had to keep our chests warm so breasts would grow.
I don't know where it came from, but I kept them warm and have larger ones while my sister did not and is flat chested.

When I was very young, around 6, I was in my "boys are icky" stage. I was scared that, one day, I'd have to marry one, so I asked my mom "can girls marry girls?". To this, she replied "um....of course, honey." I told her that was what I wanted to do when I grew up. She kept this funny look on her face, and had no idea why. A while later I found out what gays and lesbians were, and realized why she was so appalled. I cant look back at that moment today.

I used to believe that, rather than giving birth, when the baby was born it would climb out the collar of whatever the mother is wearing by using a ladder. (I imagined a small ladder like one from a bird cage).

Up untill I was around 8 or 9 I knew very little about sex and reproduction. I thought that when someone had sex both people just looked at each other naked...just standing there.

Also, when I was little I would hear stories about womens water breaking before they would have their baby. So, I thought that if you drank a WHOLE lot of water you would get pregnant...let's just say that I don't drink much water anymore.

when i was very young and i had no idea what a penis looked like exactly i thought that it was very long and resembled the snuf-o-la-po-gaus (okay i KNOW that's not spelled right but sound it out and you'll know who/what I'm talking about--think sesame street characters) nose. I thought that they just rolled their penis right on up and kept it in their underwear.

One time the class was talking about squids, and on being asked what a squid's "legs" were called, my friend said "Testicles! No wait, squids have too many. You'd be deformed if you had more than one!"

When I was younger, I had a lot (and I mean A LOT!) of Legos, and I would build these extravagant, multi-bedroom houses with them. I also had a collection of beads, and I'd pretend that the beads were a family living in the lego house. The storyline was always the same: there was a 16 year old girl, she was the 'mom' and she had a husband and like thirty bead kids. I would make them go on pretend talk shows and try to convince the audience why this was an okay set up. It never occured to me that a 16 year old girl would not be able to be biological mother to all those kids.

When i was little...i thought that right after you got married you'd become pregnant without even doing anything.

When I was about 8 or 9 I thought that you would get your period once, and then you could have a baby, and when you're body was too mature for a baby you would have another to let you know that you could no longer have children. I wish it was that way!

I used to believe…

When I was extremely little I saw my mother once changing her sanitary towel and I thought it was a special piece of pre-wrapped paper for women to wipe their bottoms on. I was a very femeinist jid, you see. So after htat I started wiping my botton with her towels and she started wondering where they all went. I’m thirteen now and I realise how wasteful I was.

My male friend believed, until about 2 months ago, that you would insert a tampon, then pull the string so it opened up like an umbrella inside you. I suppose it is kind of logical in a way, but it didn't stop everyone laughing for about 10 minutes! We still tease him now......

My mom taught me to call my vagina a "kitty." Well, she always told me to wash it well in the bath. For some reason one day after I got out of the bath, I told my brothers that I had washed my kitty. Why, I have no idea. They gave me the strangest looks. Still to this day I don't know if they knew what I was talking about or not... I hope not...

i also used to think that sanitary towels were put in your bra to catch milk that would randomly leak out of grown womens breasts. i based this belief on the fact that to this day im convinved i saw one poking out from a babysitters bra one time.....

when i was about 5 or 6, a friend and i used to draw litle faces and ears on tampons and pretend they were mice. I could never understand why her mum wouldnt let me take my little rodents friends home with me, and was filled with disgust when my friend whispered that it was because after i left, her mum was goin to "stick them up her minge.."

When me and my best friend played with our Barbie dolls at age eleven, we'd make them have soap opera lives (who's marrying who, who had a kid, who finished school)... but when it was time for them to have sex, we would just put Barbie and Ken into their bed in an embrace, pull the covers up over them, and patiently look away for a few minutes, waiting for them to finish whatever it was they were supposed to be doing. Then Barbie would get up and cook in her robe while Ken got dressed.
