I used to believe…

As a little girl, I thought only SOME girls would get their period. So, naturally, I thought it would never happen to me... Then came my huge surprise at nine years old, went I noticed blood in my panties... I ran out of the bathroom crying and screaming for my mom, I couldn't believe it had actually happened to me. I still cried for the next few months before I finally understood and realized that ALL girls had periods, and not just a few unlucky ones...

I was born in September and therefore am a virgo zodiac sign. When I first heard the word "virginity", I thought that anybody who was born in September had virginity. I thought a virgo and a virgin were the same thing!

I guess my mother had a sense of humor, or maybe she was just a cruel woman with nothing better to do but to torture her first born. In any event, she told me when I was a kid that one day, she was picking her nose, and saw something moving in her booger. She decided for some reason to take care of it, and that moving thing turned out to be me. Imagine believing throughout your childhood that you were nothing but a booger child. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to inspect every booger I ever picked, but thank god I never did that!

I am the oldest of three girls; my mother had all of us via c-section. It wasn't until sitting in my 7th grade health class seeing a LIVE birth during sexual education that I realized that not all babies are born through surgery!

I used to believe that oral sex meant talking dirty.

I used to believe that woman gave birth through their bottoms and if they forced a poo too hard while pregnant they might accidentally give birth in the toilet and unknowingly lose their baby.

When I was younger I thought that gay men had sex by rubbing their willies together, I didn't find out that this wasn't true until I was 14 and asked a gay friend about it

I used to believe that God would just randomly drop a seed into your mouth from the sky (after you got married or course) and you would swallow it and 9 months later, you had a baby. I believed this until my mom told me the truth when I was 10

When I was a child, I had the "where do babies come from" talk explained as "a man gives a woman his seed...." Being rather literal minded, I asked my elder brother (the font of all knowledge, in my pre-school mind) what kind of seeds mom meant. He replied "poppy seeds." For many years afterwards I refused to eat poppy cookies or cake because I was afraid I'd get pregnant. I must have been in my late teens before the connection really dissolved.

When I was about 10 my sister got her period and I was sad because I thought getting your period meant you were a woman and I wanted to be a woman already. I actually started crying because I was the only one in the house who didn't have hers!

I used to believe that making love was where you had your clothes off and having sex was where you had them off.

As a child I believed that a 'virgin' was a holy person (because of the virgin mary) so when one of my classmates asked if i was a virgin, i said no! I still laugh

When I was young I used to believe that if a man and a woman slept in my bed together they would become pregnant instantly. Every time my dad had family over, or friends, they used my room as the guest room and I slept on the couch. And every morning when we ate breakfast the couple that were sleeping in my bed would surprise us with the news that they were pregnant. I never wanted to sleep with a male in that bed ever!
