My mother told me that it was against the law to cross busy streets until you were 12. One day I asked the D.A.R.E. officer that was giving a presentation to our 5th grade class if that was true. Needless to say, I was the laughing stock of Ms. Homburge's class for that whole year.

when i was younger my granny was driving down the road and i saw a car with a dealer tag on it i asked her why the cops didn't just pull them over and arrest them because they were apparently drug dealers

I thought that the police would hide places, waiting to arrest me if i even yelled at my sister. I was freaked out. And once i couldnt help it and got in a fight with my sister. I got yelled at by my parents but i satyed up all night for three nights freaking out about the police finding out and me spending the rest of my life in jail. After the third sleepless night, i told my sister i was sorry and went back into my room. Out loud i said (for the police to hear) "See, i apoligized, dont put me in jail please." adn that was taht.

When I was very little, I used to notice signs on the walls in public places that said "Restrooms" with an arrow pointing to where these rooms were. I believed that restrooms were rooms where people were taken to be put under arrest and the signs were there to help the cops find the right room. Imagine my fear when I told my mom I had to pee and she said "okay, let's take you to the restroom." I was so relieved when I didn't see a single cop in there!

OK, this isn't really a belief, but when my brother's friend's brother was little, he used to practice calling 911, and one day the phone was actually ON, so he heard the person say "911, what's your emergency?" and he got scared so he gave it to his brother (my brother's friend). The dispatcher said "911 what's your emergency" again, and my brother's friend answered "I lost my green ruler,". I am still wondering why they didn't track the call.

I used to believe that serial "cereal" killers were people whose job was to kill little cereal animals and put them in boxes for us... I knew about meat and that it was dead animals so when I heard "cereal killers" I assumed that they worked at miniscule slaughter houses!

When I was like 2 or 3, I thought that when the cops pulled you over to give you a ticket, which I heard my mom talk about a lot, that they would actually tip your car over, right there in the road.

When I was little I called 911 just to see what would happen. Since it wasn't for an emergency I was sure that the police would track me down and I would have to spend life in prison. I had several sleepless nights waiting for a nock at the door and the police to take me away forever.

When I was a little kid I used to believe that serial killers were people who ate cereal and then killed people.

I used to believe that the "vice" in "vice squad" had the same kind of meaning as that in "vice president", so that a vice squad would be an alternate squad that would stand in for some main squad when the main squad was unavailable for any reason.

I used to think that on Friday the 13th, the government would send Jason out to kill random people and I was afraid he'd come to my town someday

When I was little, my mum was telling me about speeding fines. I asked her what would happen if you didn't pay it, and she said you got into a lot of trouble and you might go to jail. I was really scared because I thought that meant that if you tried to buy something and then found you couldn't pay, you would go to jail. I was really scared and even had a dream where my dad was sent to jail when he couldn't pay some bank bill.

All of my friends in elementary and middle school were nerds, and I never associated with anyone else until I met a neighborhood girl who was... decidedly not nerdy. I was amusingly sheltered at the time, and when she told me she smoked pot occasionally, I naturally assumed that she was going to die a horrible death, because DRUGS ARE BAD. I cried my eyes out the night after she told me, until my dad found me and asked what was wrong. Then he laughed and proceeded to tell me about alllllll the drugs he had done in his younger days. I was quite reassured.

— Then I discovered the internet...the law : drugs

I used to hear a lot about seriel killers when I was little. So I asked my dad what it meant. He told me that "it was someone who killed people the same way" I took this to mean that seriel killers would throw the same type of cereal at their victims to kill them.

I grew up in a suburb outside of Chicago and there was an osco drug store in our town. When I was sick once, my mom was driving me from the doctors office to osco to get medication, and when I saw the sign "Osco Drug Store" I was really confused because I thought they sold illegal drugs there, i was nervous to go there because I thought bad people would be there. I didn't understand how a place like that hadn't been shut down. Thank you DARE for freaking me out..ha..After purchasing the medicine she explained to me how they don't sell illegal drugs and etc.

When I was about 8 I started "playing doctor" with the boy next door. A few years later I heard the term child molestor and when I found out what it meant I was terrified. I thought that "playing doctor" made me a child molestor and the police would find out my dirty secret and come drag me off to jail. I didn't realize that you have to be an adult in order to qualify.

i used to believe that police hid in the bushes so if you did somthing bad you would get thrown into jail! hahahahahaha
