One day when I was about 8, I over heard my cousins talking about my oldest cousin seeing drawfs stealing his candy... I was always afraid that drawfs would come and steal my candy when i asleep. Later I found out he was tripping on a illegal drug and had a bad trip and he was explaining to my aunt and uncle about his illegal use of drugs. To this day they still make fun of me...

An american friend of mine ( im british) Was convinced that redbull containd speed. She also thought that was why she felt auful in the morning after drinking MANY Redbulls. The fact that each one had a dobel vodca in it never crossed her mined. We were 18 so not teknicly kids, but hay.
I used to be afraid that someone was going to break into my house and shoot or stab me. So, naturally, I kept the covers over my head at night because everyone knows that pillows and blankets block bullets and knives!
My older brothers did not want me, their little sister, to play board games with them. They told me that the (recommended) age on the box meant I couldn't play unless I was that age or older because it was against the law and I believed it and thought the games had tiny little policemen inside of them that would pop out and arrest me if I played it. I believed this for a really long time.
When I was young and saw 101 Dalmations, Scotland Yard was talked about in it, but I never really understood what it was. I imagined it was a very expensive-looking, fancy yard with statues, but I couldn't figure out what it had to do with catching the criminals who stole the puppies!
i used to hear people say "that guy looks familiar" and i thought they said "for Miliar", thinking there was a guy named Miliar that was on the run and certain people were hired to look for him. so these people would be looking for a guy named Miliar. i was very young.
I thought that when someone was called an "ex-con," I didn't know that meant "ex-convict." I thought it meant that the person was an "ex-con artist." I thought he or she used to con people out of money, but not anymore.
When I was 5 I was in the car when my uncle had a minor car accident. The policeman asked to see my uncle's license, and I saw it briefly when he gave it to the officer. The license was printed on safety paper that had green and red swirls in the background. The officer said his license was expired and I believed the policeman knew it was expired because it had gone moldy (hence the green and red swirls).

I used to think that the river police were there to stop naughty people from pulling the plug out.
I used to believe that if you were arrested, you were automatically put in jail. I thought this because many episodes of 1980's cop shows ended with the villain being arrested (if he is not killed), and the conflict of the episode is resolved as soon as the perpetrator is placed under arrest. The concepts of "trials" or "the possibility that the arrested person is innocent" did not occur to me at the time.
When I first heard the term "banned", I thought that the police would come around house to house and put arm bands on those people who were to be banned, or excluded.
My Granny once told me that if I was scared of robbers coming in at night to sleep with a knife under my pillow.
So every night I made sure my trusty butter knife was under the pillow. I thought it was a superstition thing that worked. When I grew up I noticed Granny slept with a sharp knife under HER pillow.
With a child's understanding of time... I used to think my dad was a convict settler. I'd heard about the first white Australians who'd come to the country as prisoners from England (some 200 years ago). I knew my dad came from England too when he was younger, so it just seemed logical that he was one of them.
I used to want to be a con artist,I thought you could actually go to college to be one,and whenever someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up,I replied "A con artist."
when I was young I was afraid of going into crowds in the city because I'd heard that people would come up to you and spike you with PCP and make you an addict...
I always believed that having your dome light on in the car (while driving at night) was illegal. It was only a few months before my TWENTIFITH birthday that I realized it was a lie that my parents told us - I guess we asked them to turn it on one too many times during car trips! Scary how we believe everything our parents tell us as if it's gospel.
I grew up in a very small town in Illinois. When my parents took me to Peoria (population about 150,000), I saw my first motorcycle police officer. His motorcycle was beautiful -- low-slung and white, with shining white saddlebags across the back. I just KNEW they contained ice cream.
When I was about 4 I would worry about robbers breaking into our house, but only till midnight. Because after midnight the witches would come out and no robber would be out when the witches were out.
I grew up in a very rural area, and there were signs posted on the neighbor's fenced property stating "No Trespassers - Violators will be Prosecuted". I used to think it meant that the penalty was death.

Until I was about 11 or 12 I thought that "prostitute" referred to a female criminal.
