When I was about 3 or 4, I heard on the news about American soldiers fighting 'gorillas' in Vietnam. I couldn't imagine what we were fighting about nor how it was taking place. Did they have guns or just throw bananas and sticks? How many of them were there?

At some point between the ages of 3 and 6, when I first learned about slavery, I thought that black people were still slaves. This belief was compounded by the fact that I live in a suburban Minnesota neighborhood where there were basically no black people to tell me I was wrong. Fortunately, I found out when I told my mom that I thought that making black people be slaves was mean, and that they should stop. She set the story straight before I ran into any trouble, because Minnesota is so white that the only black people I had ever seen at that point were on television. I was kinda embarassed, seeing as how I just asked her if she remembered back when the dinosaurs were still around.

When my mom used to show me pictures of her as a child, they were in black and white, so I thought that the world was black and white when she was younger...I always asked her when the world became colorful, but I dont think she understood me...I just couldnt figure it out hehe...

Raised by my grandparents the photo albums were full of black and white pictures then they suddenly became color. When I was little I thought the world was in black N white and they invented color sometime durning the 50's.I asked my Grandmother how she knew if her clothes would match. She thought I was strange.

My dad watched a lot of re-runs when I was growing up. Andy Griffeth, Ozzy and Harriet, Beaver and stuff like that. So I believed that when my dad was young and pretty much before I was born that the world was black and white. Color was "invented" around the time I came into conciousness.

I used to believe the world used to be black and white when watching re-runs of old shows

I used to think that black and white television shows were black and white because they hadn't invented color yet. The color TV programs were programs made after they invented colors.

I used to think that the reason there was only black and white tv was because the whole world was only black and white, that color in the world was new.

Before kindergarden, I too thought that a long time ago the world was black and white. But that colours were invented one by one. All due to my kindergarden teacher saying "when I was little EVERYTHING was red!"...she was talking about firetrucks, and hats, and hydrants. I always wondered what colour came after red.

i used to think that the world used to be in black and white since all of the pictures from that time weren't in color.. for instance i thought that my grandparents were black and white and lived in black and white until later on when they turned to color

When people would say "Remember Waterloo" I thought they were talking about an Indian fight in Walterloo, Iowa. I was in college when I learned that it was about Napoleon and France.

When I was younger I used to think the "Civil War" was called the "Silver War", and was actually a war over jewelrey and table utensiles.

When I was a little kid in the early 90s, I really liked the albums from the 60s my family had and I read all about the hippies and stuff. I figured, in my innocent little mind, that the 60s was when cool was invented, and if you became a hippie in the 60s, you never had grow up, and you stayed cool by evolving with the decades. So that meant that the people who were hippies in the 60s/early70s were also the same people at the disco in the late 70s, then the punks/new wavers/whater was cool in the 80s, and now (meaning 1993) they were the skateboarders or grunge rockers or something. This also explains why I did not beleive my parents saying they were involved in anythin g in the 60s since they were old and never did anything fun.

From looking at my parants and grndparants old photographs I used to believe that everything was black & white. From the cloths they wore to the cars they drove

I grew up in the U.S. in the 80s. I remember my dad telling me that it would be very easy for us or the USSR to destroy each other - all they would have to do is press a button and missiles would fly over and blow up the country. For some reason I imagined that in both countries' main government offices, there was a big gray box with nothing on it but a red button for this purpose.

When I was little and watched old black and white movies with my grandmother, I used to believe that the world used to be in black and white.
